Our flagship location opened its doors on First Avenue in 1984 and was bestowed with a glowing, two-star review from The New York Times. From the moment you arrive, old world charm permeates your dining experience through authentic Mexican colors and rustic folk art. Traditional amate gods greet you at the front entrance and brightly colored papel picado hangs from the ceiling. Corn tortillas are made on site and an exposition grill further seduces your senses. Come for the Guacamole, stay for the Margarita's

I've been going to Rosa Mexicano for well over a decade. One of those places I just have to go when I'm in NYC. The place was recommended to a friend of mine by the then Mexican Ambassador to the UN. I've never had anything but a superlative meal there. The first time I went they had empanadas de jaiba... More

You might expect a Mexican restaurant to be noisy and full of young people drinking tequila, snacking on nachos. Not Rosa Mexicano. It has a mix of patrons of all ages who enjoy high-quality Mexican cuisine (not just eats) at smallish tables adequately spaced, in a pleasant interior with very welcome acoustical tile on the ceiling. You can hear yourself... More

Great service! Me and my boyfriend ordered a guacamole as an entrée. The server came to our seats with a trolley with avocado, lime and coriander and started to make the guacamole at our table! Spectacular! We ordered fish taco as main course. It was the best taco I´v ever tasted! Beautyful plated and great flauvors. This is a restaurant... More

Came here for a work/departmental party and thus wasn't paying which might slightly cloud the review. Had a set menu of Guacamole and three different apps for the table plus chips and two kinds of tacos for the table as entrees, followed by Churros and coffee. Enjoyed the frozen pomegranate margaritas immensely. The Churros come out warm with three kinds... More

I've been going to Rosa's since 1994, and I've NEVER been disappointed. yes...the Pomegranate Margarita might be 1 reason for this perfect review. haha! Truly, the food is always amazing...the guacamole made table side, together with the mini tortillas that are handmade as you dine, make for a great start to a great meal. I can't wait to go back... We were in the city and took a late Sunday lunch. Lucky we arrived at an off time and were quickly seated. Food was all very good. The fresh guacamole is very good and I recommend it highly.

Another terrific neighborhood resturant with friendly service and fresh, fantastic, guacamole made right at your table....not coming from a pre-made batch sitting in the kitchen refrigerator for hours AND the chips are warm! The special entrees are very good especially the shrimp....the short rib is divine!! Although we were a table of 4 tonight, two of us have often eaten... More

We had a group event here. The only thing that stops me from rating it Excellent was that we asked for a "private room" and instead we were given a back area, that was open to all sides, and had separate tables for our group, meaning we were separated. The food, however, was excellent and the service was nearly perfect.... More

I'm not a major fan of Mexican food, but this place is so much fun, makes such good Margaritas and guacamole (table side prep to your taste) that you've got to love it. The tortilla chips are warm and never soggy and the main dishes have always been very well prepared. Ole!

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
