Great find!

Had only a little bit of time before going to the Lucille Lortel Theatre to see Lost Girls, and found Gaetana's. Went in for a Campari and soda, but suddenly became hungry after seeing and smelling the dishes being served around me. Cozy atmosphere, friendly bartender Lisa, and delicious food... read more

Was heading to Jersey City and looking for an alternative to the Jersey City/Newport restaurants and stumbled on this neighborhood restaurant a half block from the Christopher St. PATH station. Seemed to be several regulars at the bar speaking with the owner/manager. The bar has one flatscreen TV and is separated from the main restaurant area by a partial wall,... More

Gaetana's is a out of the way West Village restaurant that is gives you a few hours of great ambiance, excellent food and wine and a very good price. It takes you back in time to the turn of the century in decor and feeling but brings out the newest southern Italy dishes and wines. The lasagna is amazing, the... More

My friends and I went to this restaurant while we spent a long weekend in New York for our friend's wedding. We were surprised by how nice everyone was to us! most new Yorkers don't like tourist. We were given complimentary Bruschetta, a bottle of wine and lemon cello to finish off our meal. All the servers took care of... More

This place was not a place to go to. Food was decent but we had horrible service. Servers were all mixed up. We never had the same waiter. It was a bother to get us water, silverware, or a dish f clam shells! Red sauce is odd. Nice music and location but service was way below average and food was not... More

This is a nice, local place for dinner. We brought out 16 and 12 yr old. They were hungry and aren't as well prepared for the time it takes to prepare the good food here. Very big arugula salads with olives and tomatoes. Nice baked clams. Entrees were well received by everyone. This is a nice place to go if... More

Gaetana's is one of those places you didn´t think existed anymore: An old school, family run italian place with a menu of classics from the old country-and portions to match. When we visited the weather was nice, the windows were open, the bar was crowded (Rangers game going), the owners pampered us. Just like in the movies, even the New... More

I have passed this restaurant several times and last night I finally went in with my friends. I don't know why I waited so long to try it. It's a family owned business The hospitality and food were perfect. Michelle and her brother ( I don't get his name) were very attentive. They came by the table several times to... More

Sorry I am not sure what people see in this place. The food on a recent Friday night was spectacularly bad, almost inedible...burnt pizza with salty stale tasting prosciutto, soggy onions, tasteless bland mozzarella, watery tomato sauce. Service was very slow..even got the wrong order. .In this town of excellent Italian and other food, no reason to ever go back... More

Staying in West Village

Neighborhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
