The West Village go to Italian restaurant and bar. This landmark is still the best place in the West Village to go to for Italian food or fish or a good steak! I've been eating here for years and the food that owner Frankie puts on your table everyday is nothing short of great. if you want something just ask... More

On the plus side the staff here are really friendly and welcoming ... and the restaurant has a lovely ambience. However, the food is disappointing, at least the choices we made on the night we visited were, that is. I had the clam linguine and my partner had the rigatoni arrabiata. The clam dish was bland and the arrabiata was... More

We were lucky to stumble into Gaetana's on a rainy night lost in the West Village. The atmosphere (tablecloths, candles, bar, World Series, Andrews Sisters) was calming, warm and Italian. The lasagna ordered by my husband looked wickedly delicious and I enjoyed a thin-crust spinach and garlic pizza. Great mesclun salad too. Our waiters were very nice and sent us... More

I was visiting my son and we were with a couple of my friends looking for a place to eat in The Village on a Saturday night when we stumbled upon this wonderful Italian restaurant in the Village. Both the food and the service were wonderful. We were pleasantly surprised when the frozen margaritas came in iced tea glasses and... More

We went to Gaetana's our first night in NewYork and had a great meal and a wonderful time! Everything from the appetizers to the desserts was homemade and delicious. The owner and his wife couldn't have been friendlier. I felt like I was at my favorite Italian uncle's for dinner! They have a great variety of food, but they went... More

The only reason I visited this restaurant is the PATH service was suspended and I simply wanted to eat and drink while I waited (the restaurant is one block from the Christopher Street PATH station). I sat at the bar, which had both the preseason Giants and Jets game on the two TVs. I felt like the bartender was more... More

I returned to Gaetana's after nine months and ordered the Lasagna. It was just a good as my last visit. This time I had lentil soup that was the size of a meal all by itself. Unfortunately, it was too salty and I had only a few spoonfuls :-( Hopefully this was one off.

Gaetana's is tucked away in West Village, a few blocks from the Hudson River, steps from the Christopher St. PATH stop and a few blocks from the Christopher St./Sheridan Square 1-train stop. It truly is a hidden gem in a massive and sometimes confusing NYC dining scene. Have been here twice now and boy does this place serves up some... More
