Better than it looks

The menu looked good but first appearances inside were dark and worn. Actually, the place seemed to try to be romantic with the candlelight only tables but that was a bit off-putting. Loud, obnoxious music thumps out the doors and through the building. Don't eat here. This restaurant/BAR is really a bar that serves food for LOUD brunches and some late nights. The neighbors dislike their attitude and approach. Very trashy.

As expected or worse. Didn't think the food would be anything great in this brunch/club spot, and that's what it was. Nothing great, barely good. Went for a birthday party. Half of the stuff on the menu the server said they didn't have (crab cake eggs Benedict.....no crab cake) and when ordering the burger with blue cheese and bacon, the... More

My daughter did the scouting for a place to eat on Christmas Eve not far from our hotel on 24th Street, and I am glad she found Il Bastardo. The menu was limited in one sense, with only a handful of meat dishes, for example, but rich in variety. I enjoyed boneless short ribs atop a mountain of mashed potatoes... More

We got there first thing on a Sunday night. Didn't know what to expect. When we arrived they were finishing up a private party. It was a liquor company with a bunch of 20 something's stumbling out of the door drunk and falling down and cussing. We almost left. The bouncer ran them off told them to clear the street... More

Our sever had little understanding of the English language, this was a problem, Waite for 8 unites while hostess was on phone. Ordered stuffed mushrooms, though I liked them, there were only 3 small mushrooms for $14, at that price, for this place should have been 5-6. Had the Eggplant Parm was OK, not great, though the pasta with it... More

Staying in Chelsea and needed to eat after 11 pm on a Thursday night. Il Bastardo was open and weren't we pleasantly surprised. It's an Italian restaurant and bar with a very nice interior. It was all done up for Christmas and despite it being a big place, the atmosphere was very cozy. Pretty architecture throughout. The best was that... More

The restaurant is around the corner from my work place and very convenient. The food is always fresh and tasty. the clientele is eclectic, which what makes Chelsea. I have one major complaint. They are constantly out of name brand liquor. They seem to have a problem with their supplier. I ordered a Ciroc vodka, out of it, then a... More

This is a neighborhood place for us, just a block away. Although it is not a "destination" restaurant, it offers a nice menu of Italian meat, pasta and seafood at very reasonable prices. We shared the Grigliata Mista to start which contained two very fresh shrimp, a wonderful sweet scallop and some grilled calamari atop a simply dressed salad. Their... More

There are restaurants all up and down this street but we walked by this place one night and thought it might be nice to visit so we came back the next night to celebrate a birthday. The food was delicious but the service was slow. Our waitress seemed a bit distracted. We sat outside to enjoy the lovely night weather... More
