Almost perfect

The Columbian food at this little (and I mean LITTLE) restaurant is outstanding. The only problem is that you probably won't find a piace to sit. I was with a group of people who actually sat on the sidewalk outside the restaurant. Also when I finally found a seat at a table outside, I was told... read more

The fact that you almost always have to wait for a table, is an indicator that they are doing something right. Also this place is tiny, seats around 20 people. They have great tasting basic food and drink at reasonable prices. This is our go-to pre-theater place. We get in early (before 6pm) and usually don't have much of a... More

This is an annual stop on our trip to NYC and they never disappoint! I take a group of high school students to NYC every year and it never fails that Empanada Mama is one of their eating highlights from our journey. In fact, this year, they liked it so much that we actually went twice! They have an endless... More

This was a late late night stop for us (around 4am). My party of four made a rookie mistake and tried to get a table (wait of 30 minutes) before grabbing our dessert empanadas to go. This place is narrow and was PACKED but the wait staff were very friendly and calm. We inhaled the empanadas when we got back... More

Definitely worth a stop here. Multitude of options here for a reasonable price. Enjoyed the Viagra empanadas. And the plantain chips with appetizer.

This is one of our favorite restaurants in NYC. Since it can get super crowded, go at an off time if possible and don't be put off by how close you are to the people dining next to you. It's totally worth being squished in. The empanadas are of course delicious and we appreciate that we can order them baked... More

This is the only place you need to know about if you are running around and clubbing/attending concerts and you just want something yummy delivered to your hotel at any weird hour. In the course of a 3 day weekend I ordered EM 5 times between myself and my friends. This place kicks butt!!!! They need to franchise this place... More

At first glance as you are walking along 9th Ave, Empanada Mama would appear to be a small, fast food Latin restaurant. On the contrary, me and my friends were really surprised when we entered cozier restaurant. It's what you kind of expect in the city, not a large spacious layout but they've got a fair amount of seats and... More

Gets crowded because it has reasonable prices for this neighborhood. We have been twice but with so many options in the area I would probably say we won't rush back. Sort of a fast food feel from the service.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
