A cozy authentic empanada joint in the heart of Hell's Kitchen

At first glance as you are walking along 9th Ave, Empanada Mama would appear to be a small, fast food Latin restaurant. Gets crowded because it has reasonable prices for this neighborhood. We have been twice but with so many options in the area I would probably say we won't rush back. Sort of a fast food feel from the service.

Came here on hunch for a quick bite and ate here. Ordered the delicious option of a Brazil style empanada and it just barely was enough and I really should have ordered more, but since they fry to order it takes some time to make The 2 side sauces that came along with the empanada were also delicious. They service... More

Even with the numerous high-end and find dining options in NYC, this casual joint remains the favorite. The menu includes several options, but we have only had the empanadas along with some of the sides. Get fried plantains and guacamole, they are outstanding! There are many empanada options. They are fairly filling so it would take several trips to try... More

What a fun place. The staff is friendly and helpful. It is small, but you can sit at the bar if you don't mind a little bumping now and then. The empanadas are abut the size of your palm and stuffed full of meat and spices and whatever you desire. The spicy chicken is terrific. We tried several different ones... More

I like this Mid-town Manhattan restaurant because I can get varied sweet and savory delicious empanadas here. The empanadas are decently priced for Manhattan and you can also have them delivered easily. I have tried different empanadas here but I still prefer the beef ones. My order is never complete without a serving of the Tostones. I really like these... More

This is a small inexpensive restaurant in Hell's Kitchen. Just a short walk from the 8th street theaters and worth the extra walk. The empanadas are excellent - all fresh ingredients- and so are the soups. There were man great dishes on the menu I would like to have tried and hope to go again. I's also open 24 hours... More

So you have to like little bits or bites of foods, like sliders would be to hamburgers, this Argentina inspired filled dough sandwiches are fresh and original, and good value for the price. Small place and can get crowded but worth the wait if you can. Leftovers are especially good later on!

In case you think you can't eat a god meal in NYC without paying an arm and a leg you should try Empanada Mama. The food is delicious and not just the empanadas. My favorite dish was the pollo a la plancha - flat chicken breast cooked on a grill with interesting spices. Of course the empanadas were good and... More
