There's more to it than just great food

Tree has a great neighborhood bistro feel that wows you with everything. The food was amazing of course, you don't get to 116 out of 11,875 on trip advisor for NYC with bad food. My wife had the seafood linguine and I had the NY Strip. Both were amazing. What made our night was the details from... read more

Tree Bistro is one of those places the neighborhood locals know well, other city locals learn, and everyone else walks by without realizing what a great place it is by walking in. The restaurant is a long and narrow with a real homey feel, but the backyard garden is the gem - spacious with character and great atmosphere. The food... More

I'm not one to write reviews about restaurants but this time I can't help myself. I came to this charming east village jewel last week for dinner. I had no reservation so I had to sit at the bar. The gracious hosts who greeted and served me were also the owners as it turned out, Colm and Kathleen. It has... More

A really welcoming little bistro with eclectic modern global dishes and a wonderful hidden garden at the back. We ate here on Halloween and it was very quiet eats-wise, but there was a convivial scene around the bar and a wonderful jazz singer. Heartily recommend the zucchini basil ricotta flatbread, the calamari and the sparkling cocktails!

I met my daughter and her boyfriend at "tree" for Thanksgiving dinner and it was a wonderful experience. They were very accommodating and served us drinks with other friends and family who stopped by and then a delicious Thanksgiving meal. We all chose the traditional turkey with trimmings and it was very good. Prepared with care with moist light and... More

This is the cutest place. I've been here a few times now, and it's just as warm and friendly when it's just my wife and me or when we go with the kids. Great food and warm, friendly service. A bit of an international feel, and some creative dishes. Definitely worth a visit!

This little resto is an oasis of calm and surprisingly good food. My friends and I enjoyed very much the fried calamari with coconut curry-flavored sauce, lobster ravioli, and salmon. Desserts were quite tasty as well. Staff were very polite and attentive. Too bad it was a bit too cool to sit in the lovely garden patio the night we... More

Ate there last week - it had been a while, but we'll be back soon I think. Quiet rear garden with pleasant hubbub, not NYC noisy. We each had seafood dishes, crabcakes and seafood risotto. Fine. And the service remains very good.

Visited Tree Bistro for wedding meal. Did not eat off menu but the variety of foods offered was universally outstanding. Canopied garden provides beautiful setting for any event. Owner and staff worked hard to make everyone feel comfortable. Eager to visit again for meal from the regular menu.

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
