Description: Eileen's Special Cheesecake opened for business in December, 1975, and...
Eileen's Special Cheesecake opened for business in December, 1975, and arrived in lower Manhattan on December 4, 1976. It was a "ghost town" when I first arrived, but that didn't bother me because the rent was low and I desperately needed a place to bake for my growing wholesale business. I hadn't considered the retail aspects of the business until people started knocking on the door of the bakery wanting to buy cheesecake. With that encouragement, I purchased a bakery case and began to conduct retail business. Soon after our cheesecake attracted the press and we were listed in "Best Bites" in New York Magazine. Radio station WOR rated us "Number One Cheesecake" and we appeared on television quite often whipping up batters of cheesecake. Time passed, and now Cleveland Place is in a popular area where the mix of people and restaurants and shops are so unique. Downtown is becoming the "place to be", and we are actually on most maps now. We survived difficult times, and now "let the good times roll"!

Worth the trip.

Well, we thought we'd tasted great cheesecake before, and then We tasted Eileen's... Which is definitely the best we've had. The choice and variety of flavours is great, and they are in convenient 'treat' sizes. The strawberry was my favorite. Very affordable, so expect to line up on busy days... read more

Ever looking for my perfect cheesecake, I wanted to try this place. Got a plain mini-cheesecake and ate in the store. Very good. I am looking for a more creamy cheesecake, like I've had at Keen's. Theirs is a little denser/cakier than I want to find. But that is just my personal preference. I assure you it was good and... More

We visited Eileen's on the recommendations here and despite expecting big things, nothing can prepare you for how good the cheesecakes actually taste! The range of toppings are brilliant. Salted caramel and good old plain were our best though. The staff were really friendly too and you can see the cheesecakes being made in the back. Eileen's - if you... More

It was a last minute stop and wow well worth it. We were leaving that same afternoon to catch a flight and they were nice enough to wrap The cheesecake so that we could take it home with us back to Miami. The staff was super friendly and very helpful. The best thing is they couldn't deliver it to you... More

We queued for 15 minutes to sample the cheesecake from Eileen's, and were both pretty underwhelmed. The cheesecake mixture had almost split (didn't know this could happen with cheesecake?!). On the plus side, we did also try a peanut butter and chocolate pie thing, which was very good. Had far better cheesecake at the Magnolia Bakery. Sorry, based on our... More

Been here before, been here tonight, and I am sure that j will be back again in the future. The reason I found out about this place was because of Man Vs Food being on TV (even in good ole Australia). On my first visit, the cheesecakes just melted in my mouth and have just kept coming back. On my... More

Staying in Nolita

Neighborhood Profile
Nolita
Despite being just off of busy Houston Street, Nolita maintains a low-key vibe that makes it a pleasant retreat in the heart of lower Manhattan. Short for “North of Little Italy,” Nolita was once considered to be part of Little Italy. Today, the neighborhood is popular with young fashionistas popping in and out of the chic independent boutiques that line Mulberry, Mott and Elizabeth Streets. In addition to shopping, there are cozy restaurants and sidewalk cafes serving everything from new-school Italian food to the world-famous cronuts. While small in size (Nolita stretches just a few blocks in each direction), it’s a great neighborhood to spend an afternoon people watching, window-shopping, and grabbing a bite to eat.
