My wife and I have eaten in most Sushi spots in the city and Kanoyama is by far one of our favorites! If you can, get a seat at the sushi bar. The tuna ribs are an amazing dish and the uni oyster ikura is not to be missed. The fish is super fresh and the staff couldn't have been... More

The restaurant looks like your average Japanese you find many of here in New York, and most of these restaurants do not disappoint. But this restaurant does a lot more, the sashimi and sushi rice are unbelievable, unexpected for the place it seems. It has a great atmosphere and the variety of the food is great. And for the food... More

Ate at bar, sushi was very good, spider roll exceptional, salmon terrific, california roll was super pedestrian. Service professional. Nice Jazz, though decor was pretty unexceptional. Overall, decent meal, if you want good sushi in East Village will deliver...but didn't feel like I would go out of my way to go back there.

If you love sushi then you must try Kanoyama. Reservations are needed and they took us promptly at our rez time. My husband I ordered the sushi platter for 2 which the chef puts together - it had a total of 3 rolls and 8 pieces of sushi each. It also comes with Miso. I highly recommend letting the chef... More

Came in and sat for 15 minutes before I flagged down a server. He had no idea what was going on. Mediocre experience. It has a grade B from the city food safety office where they give out A's like candy. So many choices for great sushi in the city you really should consider another place.

The sushi here is very, very good for the price. I always get the chef's special which is more than enough food and I love the shumai and fried oysters. The service is sometimes a little confused at the restaurant and you can get jammed in at busy times but they also deliver and have take-out which are great options!

I went here last night with my husband and another couple based on their recommendation. The service, while attentive, was a little odd. It seemed like there were 5 different people waiting on us. We ordered a large variety of the signature dishes and sushi. The crispy rice is definitely their specialty, it was delicious! We also had the shrimp... More

We had a nice diner there. For two we tasted the shared plate of sushi and the quantity was really sufficient for us. Moreover the quality of the food (sushi and miso soup) was excellent. We spent a nice time there until the end our meal. We felt a bit thrown out of the restaurant by the waiter when he... More

When I lived in NYC this was my favorite sushi bar - and the sushi is still some of the best around the city. Unfortunately, it's been "discovered", and the place is teeming with hipsters, yelpers, and god knows who else. Rather than any kind of control, the host staff just jam everyone into the bar area, 3 or 4... More
