We originally came here because the head chef, Harold, won season one of Top Chef, It is a small restaurant with very cool decor. I loved the meal I got as well as everyone else's food. The bar drinks were very sophisticated and dessert was unforgettable. We ordered just about everything on the menu so we could taste it all... More

What a great find. Outstanding selection, food, services and at reasonable (for NYC) prices. Try the pork chop, pollock and tuna. All are outstanding. Reserve 1 of the 2 booths. They're comfortable and afford a great view of the dinning area. Nightlife surrounding the area is spectacular. There is (virtually) no parking. Take a cab.

Arriving on a quiet night at Perilla we had a very pleasant pre-dinner drink at the bar. The hostess advised us that she was setting up the best table in the house for us. Our two apps consisted of a very simple salad of local tomatoes and another salad with crunchy mussels that had been flash fried. Both hit the... More

I've eaten at Perilla once before, three years ago. I'm happy to say that the quality and amazing food I enjoyed then is just as delicious and wonderful today. We were celebrating a graduation and a birthday, and Perilla did not disappoint. We ordered the tasting menu - and spent an evening sampling one amazing dish after another. The balance... More

Great little place that features fresh, season Nouveau Americana cuisine with a slight, occasional hint of Asian influences.....a tell-tale Harold Dietele (Top Chef winner and owner) signature approach. Wine list is creative and affordable with interesting array of offerings. If you don't recognize any, ask Jamie (restaurant manager) to help you...she is very knowledgeable and extremely helpful.

Every course was wonderful. The service was friendly and efficient but not overly solicitous. The wine list was fine with many good, affordable choices. My experience with celebrity chef restaurants is that they're pretentious. The food is presented nicely but doesn't always live up to its looks. This experience was different. We ordered risotto, muscle salad and cucumber salad appetizers.... More

Comfortable, warm, accommodating and thoroughly delightful. That's the take on this West Village restaurant, now in its 8th year. Casual yet professional service, no-nonsense decor, cuisine that goes from adventurous to reliable, and varied and reasonable wine list give Perilla loyalists a reason to return, again and again.

The food, the ambiance and the service were absolutely impeccable. It was exactly what I was hoping for for my birthday. The cocktails were top notch, the duck fat popcorn a real treat, and every appetizer, entree and dessert was amazing. Highlights included the duck meatballs, the tofu appetizer, the steak, the pork chop, and the chocolate soufflé. Sarah gave... More

Before Top Chef contestants were forced to bicycle across Texas at the height of summer to reach a kitchen or swing an ice pick to retrieve ingredients from blocks of ice in Alaska, they actually cooked (earlier seasons still had challenges of course, but those didn't seem as stupid as in recent seasons). Harold "I'm a chef" Dieterle did just... More

This is a warm and seemingly local establishment, but from the other patrons recently encountered, it has a very nice and widespread following beyond lower Manhattan. Our duck and swordfish entrees were very good, the fish a bit overdone (dry) but well offset by the accompaniments, and the waitstaff's help with a wine choice was right on target. Will definitely...
