It's fine. Not bad by any means, but nothing we had was anything special. We both had pasta - the spaghetti & meatballs was the special. The crab cake was average at best. The bread was (that's it - just "was"). The ambiance is ok - and a *little* more room than many NY places.

My sister & husband are regular patrons @ Basso56, & Disided to take my wife & I out for dinner to their favorite plqce. If you're hungry & want delicious large portions, This is the place to go. They also have a humugous wine list. As for prices, I'm not familiar with them. Sis & hubby took care of the... More

Basso56 was close to our hotel and we decided to try it. We had an exquisite dinner and the service was fantastic. I highly recommend it. Does not look special from the outside but it is.

We had a lovely meal at Basso 56 at the end of February. Having been to the restaurant before, I was keen to book it again for this trip. The food was delicious and the waiting staff were excellent. Just a few small complaints – the tables felt a bit too close together and one of the waitresses changed in... More

We spend a few days in NYC every year and Basso56 is on our must dine list. This is perhaps my third annual review, and I am happy to report the food and service were superb as usual. Going to try to squeeze in one more meal before we return home.

We have been here several times and always go back. Very reasonable prices and a good quality meal. Good location close to Times Square and the Theatre District.

A moderately priced Italian ristorante with great quality and lovely service. Caprese salad, grilled calamari, grilled scallops were all exceptional appetizers. Amazing pastas, lamb ragu, asparagus and shrimp, pasta with sausage and broccoli were wonderful. Great fish, like while whole grilled Bronzino, was awesome. Fine desserts and a full and moderate priced. wine list , mostly from Italy. We will... More

I had the pleasure of having lunch there today with my sister and brother in law visiting from out of town. They love Italian and both have a discerning palette when it comes to Italian cuisine. I've eaten here before and knew they'd love it. I got there early and waited. We were seated quickly, even though it was a... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
