Fantastico!

Came across this little Italian that was just round the corner from our hotel off Broadway. Booked on line. Attentive, friendly staff, ate off the specials list - which was gorgeous. Best Mozzarella I've ever eaten & the Ragu sauce was on par with my Grandmothers! Truly an authentic home made... read more

We had a wonderful dining experience at Basso56. The venue is small, but perfect for midtown eating. The limited space translates to an intimate dining experience. We have been in New York five days, and this was the best meal we had by far. Pasta dishes all around for the three of us. The child had spaghetti and meatballs, my... More

Nice atmosphere Good service Seafood was overcooked. Shrimp and calamari were hard. Fish was dry. Appetizers were the best.

Never before have I been hungry after eating a pasta dish, and never before have I seen so few noodles on a plate. My meal came with more sauce than pasta, and it also wasn't that good. My friend's fish wasn't very edible, either, and they noticed, asked her about it, and took it off the bill. After that they... More

I found this restaurant on Trip Advisor and I liked the reviews and the pictures of the meals. I try to patronize family owned restaurants when at all possible. I reviewed the menu which had many interesting choices and the prices were very reasonable. My boyfriend and I were in New York City to celebrate my birthday. I contacted Basso... More

I had been here before I retired and enjoyed. When my wife and I were going to NYC, we decided to go there before the theater. We were not disappointed. We started our meal with a Caprese Salad. The Buffalo Mozzarella as creamy and delicious, the tomatoes had the perfect sweetness and the Fire Roasted Red Peppers were a perfect... More

We had dinner at Basso 56 because it was close to the theater. We were absolutely delighted with the warmth of the staff, and the quality of the food. We will definitely go back!

We ate dinner at Basso 56 last evening with another couple and we all agreed that dollar for dollar, this was one of the best New York City restaurant experiences we have ever had. I had the spaghetti and meatballs special which was included several of the best meatballs I have ever eaten, including meatballs I have eaten in Italy... More

We had tickets for Studio54 to see An Act of God & made a reservation at Basso56 for lunch. We used the fixed price menu. The hostess/waitress was charming, gracious & very knowledgeable. The staff was so attentive and the food was delicious & served in a very timely manner. We met the owners who were very happy to have... More

Stopped in last night because it was close to the hotel. The service was fast and friendly even though they were busy. The food was incredible. I had the Spaghetti and Meatball special and it was some of the best food I have ever eaten. The Tirimisu was excellent as well. The prices are very reasonable for NYC as well.... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
