Tasty authentic Italian

We had a lovely meal here before visiting the Carnegie Hall for a concert as its so close. The food was very nice as was the wine. Special mention for the scallop starter which my girlfriend really enjoyed. Very good value too and big big portions praggo!

Booked a dinner there based on TA rating and not sure what 5 poins reviews were based on. It just an OKAY place both in terms of ambience and food. Good, but not great.

Maybe the best Italian food I've ever had. My wife and I were visiting NYC and this place was both highly recommended and very well reviewed. Believe the hype. The lobster crepes are simply out of this world. Also, our waiter was incredibly kind and knowledgeable, recommending us a perfect bottle of wine that paired with our meal and wasn't... More

I had a dinner with three persons including important business partner. At the beginning, we had drinks at a bar counter at the entrance, then moved to a dining table. We ordered and shared salad, grilled calamari and beef carpaccio for appetizer and all of them were tasty. For main course, I had lamb chops and this was very delicious... More

Had the opportunity to eat at Basso 56 while in New York for business. I took a group of 10 people out to dinner and truly had an enjoyable evening. The restaurant is small but nicely appointed. The staff was the most friendly and customer service oriented that I have come across in NYC. I loved that they started us... More

We decided to go to Basso56 after researching on Tripadvisor for good italian restaurants. We had fried squid to start - it was overcooked and not very warm. I had lobster ravioli- which was really nice. Husband had meatballs- They were dry and also not very warm. I felt the whole meal was rushed and they wanted us out quick... More

We went there to celebrate our little wedding. Although we came too early, we were welcomed and offered a seat and drinks and has time to choose meals and wine before they started servicing. We started with mussels, which were quite perfect, and had pastas with seafood, lamb and prawns. They were all very good, but be careful if you... More

We decided to visit this restaurant during a trip to New York with family members after reading all the tripadvisor reviews. I was a little concerned that it might be a volume-based high-throughput restaurant and that quality might suffer. I could not have been more wrong. From the moment we entered to the moment we left several hours later we... More

I give rave reviews to few places. Basso56 deserves it. Knowledgeable service (including sommelier), excellent food, even excellent coffee. We had a mesclun salad with nuts and gorgonzola and balsamic vinaigrette split for two. Plenty! very good. I had the pasta pancakes made into beggar's purses stuffed with lobster with a light tomato cream sauce. Wonderful! My wife had fetuccini... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
