My sister and I ate at Basso56 on our last pilgrimage to New York. She found the restaurant based on reviews. We had an 8 o'clock reservation. We arrived at 8:05 and were seated immediately. The seating is tight, as are most Manhattan restaurants. The up side is we were seated beside two very interesting couples, and had some delightful... More

What a fantastic place. It's just a few steps form Times Square and has a wonderful atmosphere and excellent food. For an added treat, get a table by the kitchen and watch the magic happen. We had veal Marsala that was about as good as it gets. The sauce was quite nice indeed. Make use to get reservations as it... More

It is always such a chore to find consistently good food close to Carnegie Hall. Once you have parked the car, a restaurant with walking distance of Carnegie is a blessing. Basso 56 makes the grade in every way AND is has fresh, reasonably priced food served with style and grace. The four of us had different dishes and appetizers.... More

I visited this place already twice. This place never disappoints. I am Italian and know what is good authentic Italian food. I was here once for lunch and one for dinner and both times were offered very delicious set menu with three course Italian meals. Great customer service and delicious food for a great price. I plan to come to... More

My sister and I enjoyed a very good meal here after schlepping all over Manhattan. We both ordered a pasta dish. I got the bolognese and she got the wild boar ragu. Both were very good with a rich, well developed flavor you would expect. The wine list was extensive and very reasonably priced. The service was spot on. Our... More

Visited on our first night in NYC having booked a table based on these reviews. Service was good and the food even better. Good portions, very flavoursome. We heard a local on the table next to is that this was where all the locals come for good traditional food. Would definitely visit again.

We went in for drinks and a bite to eat. Chic atmosphere and 2 tapas with a bottle of wine. Perfect! Paulo was delightful and charming~ the commodore. He kept his eye on the crowd and made sure everyone was attended to. He generously topped off our wine glasses when we emptied the bottle. Bravo!

Recommended by concierge at our hotel who also made our reservation. Had fried calamari with fresh tomato sauce. Trust me you ate every drop! For entree, I had rigatoni with bolognese sauce. OMG best meat sauce ever. My husband had ravioli which was good but mine was better. Crime brûlée for dessert. Great food good service. Definite must try in... More

Small but cozy place. Very attentive staff. Delicious food, we had fish (sea bass) and steak , all done perfectly. A bit boring desserts, no surprise. Overall good value.
