Description: Chef Michael Psilakis and partner Donatella Arpaia have moved their rustic Greek gem, Kefi, to a larger space at 505 Columbus Avenue. The new, 200-seat interior evokes the feeling of a palatial Greek hideaway broken up into several smaller dining rooms to keep Kefi’s intimate appeal. The menu of favorites straight from Psilakis’ childhood will remain the same with some new additions. Signature dishes like Baccala, crispy-fried cod with garlic potatoes and tomato, Grilled Octopus with bean salad, and Hilopita, baked pasta with rabbit ragout and béchamel are still on offer. Additions include Grilled Sardines with chopped “Greek Salad” and garlic sauce, Macaronia Spestofai, tubular pasta with Greek sausage, peppers, onions, tomato and feta and an entirely new section of Greek Sandwiches featuring house-made sausages and pork and lamb gyro.

Being Greek, I wanted to see what this restaurant was all about. It's in a nice area, uptown on Columbus Avenue near 84th so great for after Museum of Natural History or a walk around Central Park. 3 different sections you can sit at: Down in the "basement" there is more elbow room but it is a bit dark, main... Not enough ways to describe the wonderfully tasty food at this Greek restaurant. Party of 9 and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Everything from the calamari appetizer to the Cypriot sausage to the Branzino and all in between, tastes were astonishing. Salads were delightfully fresh, service was excellent and friendly and the wine list was superb. On my list whenever... More

We had grilled octopus and several spreads to start, followed by branzino. The food was very good, fresh and served in a timely way. The service was attentive and not overbearing. Now the but: so noisy!!! It's as if people forget to talk in a regular voice and wind up screaming to each other to be heard. If it weren't... More

Delicious food, friendly staff, and gluten-free pitas! The sauces were excellent and the Anguri (vodka drink) was refreshing but not too sweet. Be careful if you specify gluten-free, though, as the chicken had a small amount of flour on it. Also, we showed up without a reservation around 4:30pm and even though the place was empty they sat us in... More

My co-workers and I were looking for a restaurant in the area, and decided on Kefi based on reviews and the fact that we wanted fish. We arrived early for our reservation, but were seated immediately in the almost full restaurant (on a Thursday evening). We ordered the spreads and the Grilled octopus for appetizers. The spreads were very good... More

What a great local restaurant. The beet salad was refreshing and tasty, the sea bas with brussels sprouts was crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside, the hangar steak was tender and cooked to perfection. And even though very crowded, service was attentive and helpful and friendly. It could not have been any better. I'll come back here... More

What a meal! I spend time in Greece every year, so I tend to judge Greek restaurants harshly. Kefi is incredible! The eggplant dish was one of the best meals I have ever had anywhere. My friends lamb shank was also exceptional. My grandmother is going to be upset! TIP: Make a reservation. The food is so good that it... More

Went to Kefi on recommendation by Frommers Guide Book. Certainly lived up to recommendation. Great atmosphere and service. Lovely food and wine and really good value for money. Recommend 100% - really glad we went. Party consisted of 2 adults and 2 late teen/early twenties and all really enjoyed. Endorse recommendation to reserve a table as we went on a... More

I really liked Kefi. During my previous stay in NYC I was unable to visit this restaurant, as it was closed due to flooding damage. The place is big and highly popular, so reservations are essential. The food is authentic Greek. The dishes taste the same as in Athens or anywhere else in Greece. The portions are generous and the... More
