Have lunch with my family with two grand children 2 yrs and 1 yr. They are very attentive and caring for the young guest. We have a private area which help a lot. The food is fantastic and like always go back there.

Japonais is just one more of those prodigious, Japanese inflected restaurants that you find all over New York City these days. You enter and know that you’ve “been there, done that”. Though the space is pretty, I didn’t feel as if it had any of distinctiveness that its counterparts Morimoto, Megu or Nobu do. The food was mediocre at best.... More

WOW! Balcony type seating open on18th Street, great setting. Decor is top notch. We grazed on sushi and tapas, and split a couple entrees. You must have "The Rock." Thinly sliced beef you place on a hot rock you cook to your liking. Greta place and a must do.

My favorite part of Japonais was the ambiance. It was terrific. I went during the night and had a great dinner. It was very noisy indeed and very popular so it's very important to make a reservation early. The door is pretty neat, it's a revolving one. The food was okay, it wasn't the greatest thing I've ever had but... More

It seems the menu has changed at Japonais is trying to pass off as a more refined purveyor of mainly cooked Japanese fare at reasonable prices. Unfortunately, it largely falls flat. The grilled Hawaiian Hamachi, one of their signature dishes, is bone dry and drowned in a broth with no taste. The appetizers are the same stuff you can get... More

I was a bit skeptical after reading other reviews. But my wife and I and 2 other couples thought the place was great. Expensive?? I thought it was in line with NYC sushi-$150 per couple (incl tip), and we drank a fair bit of sake and beer. Not out of line. And I thought sushi was very good. this is... More

The service at this place is terrible, the waiters have an attitude and purposely ignores you, you practically have to beg to get some service. Terrible experience.
