Ate at Kellari Taverna on a Thursday night. Made the reservations short notice via OpenTable and got right in. But when we arrived, the place was packed and loud. We couldn't hear ourselves think. Perfect place for an extrovert after a good night's sleep. Sat at a small two-person table about 3/4-way deep into the restaurant, cheek-by-jowl with our neighbors.... More

New York has had a wonderful surge in seriously stylish Green restaurants - Melos, Limani, Periyali, and Molyvos. Certainly Kellaria Taverna stands shoulder to shoulder with these sensational upscale Greek establishments. The dining room is large and handsome, with several seating areas. The small front dining area is near the door, coat check, and bar, and is quite loud /... More

The first time we dined at Kellari we were knocked over by great service, creative and delicious food. We went back again and it was still terrific. Now, two years later, it seems the restaurant is coasting on its reputation. We reserved a quiet table weeks ahead and given a table just past the noisy entrance. (we moved). The appetizers... More

I am fond of Greek potatoes with lemon and onions: they were over cooked, tasteless and uneatable. They looked like they had been recooked. The fish was excellent but the cooking was uninspiring. There was little attention from the staff. Certainly worse than their New York counterparts.

I loved the atmosphere at Kellari - warm and comfortable. Lots of wood, and not overly crowded the night we went there. I liked the fact we could carry on a conversation without having to yell. Our waitress was lovely and very helpful. We found the menu enticing with many Greek specialties - many that were unfamiliar to us -... More

It was a special Orthodox Easter dinner, and we were excited to try the wonderful lamb on the spit outside, and the Yiouvetsi seafood. Unfortunately, we had to send both back after a long wait-- the lamb was mostly grit and bone, very little meat. Disappointing. The seafood was difficult to find! The second dishes did please us, but come... More

If you like fish, this menu is perfect. If not,you can get chicken or lamb, but that's it. Ambiance was lovely - wood surroundings, and very quiet. Truly authentic Greek foods -- with names like "yiouvetsi" (scallops, shrimp, mussels and clams over orzo) - small portion but perfect for me and delish. Waiter recommend a Greek white wine I was not... More

The waiter made a number of special runs to the kitchen so we could eat in advance of the rest of our party to make our theatre time. The lamb on a stick was tender and tasty. Filet on toast was especially good and the roast chicken entrée was also good

This taverna has a great atmosphere and they went the extra mile to fit us in (no reservation) before our theatre start time. The food was good, as was the wine and service and price was ok for a spot between 5th and Broadway
