LOVELY GREEK

We had a very nice Bulgarian waitress who understood the menu very well. The Village salad had impossibly ripe tomato's for June. So sweet with good acidity. Dover sole was decent. Glass pours more than adequate. The star was clearly the octopus. Incredibly tender- right at the point that if it was... read more

We came in after a day of sight seeing and it was a little more upmarket than we thought or were dressed for, but no matter, we were greeted warmly and the food was excellent. Try the saganaki meze, it is fantastic. Good salads and great grilled fish by the pound. Really nice big room and the tables are well... More

I went here with a business group for a dinner after an all-day meeting. They had a separate room for us (not really a room -- it was a large alcove with half a dozen tables separated from the main room by a semi-sheer curtain. After a half-hour of drinks, the waiters brought out our first course, which was actually... More

Very welcoming staff all round. we were going to make reservations for later in the evening as we had bags in tow. surprisingly, we were told they had a holding bay for all manner of bags and were promptly seated after our bags had been stowed. I had a fish meal and had to walk up to the 'freezer bar'... More

We have stopped here a few times over the past 5 years. Couldn't wait to try it again this time but only had time for quick apps and drinks at the bar. Love this place. Had the lamb riblets. So tender and delicious; the octopus was amazing. The sautéed spinach was fabulous..garlicky and fresh. The olives, bread, humus.... Yummmm!!! Can't... More

Made a last minuted dinner booking over open table on a Sunday night with no problems. We were given a choice of table near the front or further in. We chose further in. The place had a good atmosphere. We chose mezzes and the waitress gave good recommendations which we went with. Food was all good quality and tasted great.

I had been there a few years ago with 2 other people and I remember it being a great experience. However, this time around, it was hit and miss. BAD: the lamb riblets were fatty, dry, bland and boring (NOTHING comes with it, not a sauce, nothing colorful or flavorful). The scallops were tiny, salty and slightly over cooked. The... More

We were staying at The Algonquin and happened to walk down West 44th Street and found this gem of a Greek restaurant! We had no reservation for lunch (the place was packed at 2pm) so we sat at the bar where the affable barman, Eric, welcomed us and gave us menus. He also told us what people liked especially. We... Ate at Kellari Taverna on a Thursday night. Made the reservations short notice via OpenTable and got right in. But when we arrived, the place was packed and loud. We couldn't hear ourselves think. Perfect place for an extrovert after a good night's sleep. Sat at a small two-person table about 3/4-way deep into the restaurant, cheek-by-jowl with our neighbors.... More

We have been to Kellari many times for happy hour, brunch and dinner. Today we chose the Prix fixe Mothers' Day Brunch. It seems that most of the diners were doing the same. You choose from a short but adequate number of items including adult beverages, an appetizer , entree and dessert. Everything was fine. Our waiter Phillip was helpful... More
