Complete magic - my FAVORITE of all NY cafes

Love everything about Mud - love the coffee, love the all-day breakfast, love the staff, love the location, love the customers, love the atmosphere, love the tiny bathroom that reads "In Pursuit of Magic." Because, really, this place is complete magic. They have created bliss for solo artists and... read more

A grungy hangout - indie music, dark inside with music posters and art on the walls. Popped in for brunch. Food was ok - we had the banana waffle with fruit, the omelette and the huevos rancheros. All were fine, nothing great. Service was slow. Coffee was good, again not great. Had to pay extra for a latte over the... More

Love the coffee and the food is delish as well. Small, but full of character. It is a great place to start the day. I highly recommend the caramel cappuccino and the nutella and banana sandwich on sourdough bread.

Very small restaurant with a fun and upbeat atmosphere. We had a 30 minute wait to get in, but it was worth it! The french toast with fruit and huevos rancheros were amazing. The coffee and mimosas were also very good. Everyone working was so pleasant and nice. Prices are reasonable and the menu is amazing. A must visit when... More

This small restaurant, like most in NY, is a great place to have breakfast if you're around east village. There's a covered patio in the back where you can relish on some tasteful options as huevos rancheros, french toast with fruits and plantain cake breakfast with a big cup of coffee. Fair prices and good quality = recommended.

I've stopped by at MUD to have some late breakfast. There is a seating area inside - bar or tables, and there is a nice inner courtyard / terrace. They serve brunch whole day long. Prices are reasonable. The menu is very good - granola with fruits, oatmeal, huevos rancheros, eggs any style, banana pancakes with fruits. I had a... More

We love to come to Mudspot when we get to NYC. In the winter it is cozy and in the summer you can sit on the patio and enjoy. The coffee is the best in the city. Luckily, we have always had Little Greg as our waiter. Our breakfast (or lunch) is always incredible. I only enjoy my eggs when... More

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
