I am not a big fan of American ice cream, as it's normally too sweet, too thick, too artificial and normally full of additives and cookie dough chunks or choc chips... This is the real deal! It's authentic ice creams and sorbets, and they do even funny flavours. I'd always go downtown for a treat. Trust me if you are... More

Had beet gelato, and it was awesome! This says it all. Really good icecream and definitely best place for experimenting with flavors. Not much place to sit though so just make your choice, take your icecream and walk around the area.

Laboratorio Gelato is an interesting looking place, just like a laboratory. It's across the road from Katz's Deli & a few minutes walk from Economy Candy, so could make for a very indulgent few hours indeed! Huge range of flavours, including pink peppercorn, basil & salted caramel. You can have two free tastes before buying. Our favourite was the lavender... More

Always amazing. And it is a great chance to have wonderful fruit sorbets and Italian ice creams which are less 'heavy' (and much better) than the American style. I love the Campari grape fruit and the fuji apple.

Great flavors, wonderful quality, fairly priced. Downside is they have very little seating and no bathroom.

I thought the gelato was pretty good overall but nothing out of the ordinary except for some unique flavors (basil, tarragon, etc). One of my scoops had ice crystals. All of them seemed highly whipped and not very dense. Value is fair. Is ok if nearby but lots of other choices in the city.

Well, my Best Ice Cream In NYC Challenge off of Refinery29’s list continues, and my next stop was il laboratorio del gelato in the Lower East Side. Walking by the busy street of Houston, it’s hard to miss this spot. On the corner, you approach a big, white, open spaced shop, with some blue lights luring you in. Inside, they’re... More

My wife and I searched this place out because of the great reviews and all the unique flavors. Also, it was a perfect, hot day for a gelato break. Every bit as good as any we have in Italy, plus the variety of flavors will please (and surprise) anyone. Definitely worth a trip and a taste.

I have travelled the world in search of the perfect ice cream and found it on the corner of Houston and Ludlow, NY. This place is the El Bulli of ice cream.

I have been around the block a few times (around many parts of the world) and have eaten v good ice cream in the USA, Italy, Belgium, England, Russia, etc and this is the best ice cream. Super creamy with lovely, innovative flavours. The lab is pretty cool and lab ish with really friendly staff. They don't give you teeny... More
