Perhaps, the best steakhouse in NY City

My friends and I were celebrating a re-union of sorts in NY city. We wanted to go to one of the top steakhouses and our concierge recommended S&W. We made the reservation over the phone and arrived at the restaurant on time. We were surprised when the hostess said that we did not have a... read more

It has become a staple for my visits to NYC, where I have an Apartment in Soho, that my first lunch each time is at the Smith and Wollensky's Grill. The menu is an easy read, but the specials are even easier. The Porterhouse is superb and perfectly supplemented by the Red wine blend.

Smith & Wollensky was a half block from the former home of my former publisher in Manhattan, so I visited often. It's a real man's place with in-your-face waiters who deliver great food on straight forward table settings. Over the top steaks and chops and great sides. Don't go if you're not hungry. The grill on the side street is... More

Not cheap. Fabulous steak. Onion rings were crunchy & yummy. Coconut cake was amazing. I liked it much better than the chocolate mousse cake & I am a chocoholic.

I absolutely adore the S&W, and i am always a returning customer...since 20 years. Although it was a while since i last returned here. Unfortunately, i will give this review 2 points based solely on the rudeness of the receptionist called Kelly, whom after i expressed my disappointment of having reserved my table the day before, and finding it busy... On vacation with family. Smith and Wollensky's was close and convenient. You obviously pay a New York premium but for the price we expected better. Loads of waiters but little personal attention, steaks large and tender but relatively flavourless and the salad looked as if it came from the past sell by date section of the supermarket and shaken straight... Came for lunch with some friends and we had a really lovely time. The restaurant is bursting with character. It is really gorgeous and very comfortable. There was a lovely atmosphere. Our waiter was very knowledgeable, friendly and polite. And ran us through the days specials. I ordered a burger which was absolutely delicious, great quality and cooked to perfection.... More

My husband made reservations here for us for our two year anniversary as a surprise. I had heard a lot about the historic Smith & Wollensky steak house, so when we pulled up I couldn't believe that we were actually dining there. The outside of the restaurant has a historic and classic feel. It stands alone with grace. We were... More

I came here for a birthday dinner and was definitely treated like it was my birthday. The steak was underseasoned and thus bland, but the oysters and cheesecake were very good. I can't complain about the service, which was great, but it was definitely a couples restaurant, so the atmosphere wasn't for me.

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
