The food at the Modern is great. Every single dish of the 3 course menu was a delight to the eye and the palate. The dining room was elegantly simple and full of light, setting the scene for a classy meal. However, there was something about the way we were waited on that came across as sterile and full-automatic .... More

The Modern is the restaurant at MOMA. We had visited the museum that day and made a reservation for lunch. It was prix fixe lunch. Each dish was a piece of art. The service was choreographed. There were three of us ergo three servers. We were in a booth looking out the ceiling to floor windows to the sculpture garden.... More

After 50 minutes passed and not a morsel of food was placed on the table, we knew our Mother's Day brunch at The Modern, the fine dining restaurant at The Museum of Modern Art, was not going to meet our expectations. Then finally we got some bread; specially baked tiny rolls each delivered by it's own waiter and placed ceremoniously... More

Having last visited NYC and the 'Modern' in 2011, on our return trip this month with friends, beloved and I were keen to return. We did. It was excellent. I find the to dining room to be light, airy and situated so that the museum's sculpture garden is in full view of diners. The staff, on this occasion were friendly... More

Wonderful courses, fine view of the sculpture garden--who could ask for more. Actually, smoother service would have brought five stars. No one attended an empty water glass; bread had to be requested by our table and by a neighboring French couple, and took a long, long time to materialize. Our personal preference only, but two hours for three courses (plus... More

We have been at this restaurant many times before 2015 and it looks like the service and the cuisine went down. The food was still of good quality, but the service was sluggish, not attentive, and sloppy for a restaurant of this level. The menu used to be more creative and the dishes with more intense flavors. We were a... More

Having lunched here before, we knew pretty well what to expect, i.e., a fabulous lunch. Everything in the restaurant works together to make for a fine meal: the ambiance, the service, and the food. Cheap it is not, but The Modern offers value for money. Highly recommended.

This was one of the best meals we have had in a long time. The space is very modern(ha!) and the service is perfect but not stuffy or pretentious. The 3 course meal was almost more than my wife could eat so do not worry about portion sizes. Great sommelier who helped us pick out a great bottle of wine... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
