Great Local Beer Hall.

Met friends for a drink and the place was packed on a Saturday night (very good sign). We enjoyed a few German beers and ended up going across the street for dinner. I have eaten here before and it is always top notch.

Walking into this restaurant, you immediately notice the smells of Potatoes. The place was packed, standing room only. Worth the wait. I offered the fish cod, with lemon butter chives and mixed vegetables. Great flavor, moist, flaky, my entree was divine.

Feels like you are in Berlin! German staff make it seem like a true biergarten. Good beers on tap and groovy rock music. Had a great time.

Visited on Saturday evening 12/20/14 with family for drinks. One of the bartenders made a statement to friends of his at the bar "They executed those two police officer's in my neighborhood for payback in Ferguson. He then smiled from ear to ear. This was overheard and witnessed by two members of my family. We will never step foot in... More

Loved the quaint atmosphere! And the food was delicious - even my 15 year old daughter loved it. Only downside is that the subway stop is several blocks away so for those who don't want to walk, a cab would be in order ($10 or so). My husband wasn't crazy about the neighborhood around it but I didn't find it... More

I grew up in a city with a heavy German immigrant population, and my oldest son has lived extensively in Germany (and speaks German fluently), so our expectations for a German restaurant are pretty high. Zum Schneider met and exceeded them. The atmosphere was perfect, the service impeccable (and delivered by a German-speaking server). The food was authentic and extremely... More

Manhattan is not generally a "center" for true Bavarian style foods and beers. This restauarant is the closest to actually eating in Munich or Nuremberg as I have found in the Northeast (Yes, including Philly). The best beers are on tap; e.g., Schneider, Pauliner and even Aventinus. The food is fresh, perfectly prepared and excellent. The holiday meals (e.g., Octoberfest,... More

Zum Schneider is as German as it gets with very good German dishes. We loved the fish here and german beers. This is also the "it" place to watch all European and World Cup soccer games. Always a huge atmosphere. They even have their own soccer league! Good service and fun ambience.

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
