So satisfying

We had really good food here. The potato pancakes were just right with solid applesauce. The sausage plate (2 sausages, mashed potatoes, saurkraut, mustard) was awesome. The pork shank was rich flavored and hearty but not better than the sausages. Of course, the beer was great, as was service. The... read more

The food here taste just like it does in Germany! The portion sizes are generous and well priced! It's a cozy interior with fast service when it's not crowded! I highly recommend the spaetzle! Outstanding!

The food is very good and the atmosphere, when it's not packed, is authentically German and cozy. The service, however, really spoils the experience. In typical German fashion, the staff is more interested in talking among themselves or being on their phones than taking care of their customers, and that's just not acceptable. We had to seek our service out... More

Had a great time celebrating a birthday German style. The restaurant is fun and casual. Great German selections of food and beers. Highly recommended for fun night. Check for music some nights. We just missed German Christmas caroling.

Located in the alphabet area of NYC, actually on 'C' street is this quaint little restaurant and bier Garten. Cash only and it's not inexpensive. With that being said, however, prices are about what I would expect to pay for good German food and a mas of Andechs!

I'm lucky that this place is only a block from where I live, but I'd still be a regular if it wasn't. I've traveled extensively through Germany (mainly Bavaria), and I've eaten at my fair share of German bistros in the US. This is simply the most authentic and the best outside of Germany that I've experienced. And they have... More

Definitely not the place for a quiet, intimate dinner. However, easily the best German food I have eaten outside of Germany. If the awesome beer selection does not intrigue you, there is A very nice selection of German and Austrian wines. Portions are large, be warned if you are not really hungry, and prices are very fair for the quality.... More

The food in New York City beats many places in the United States and may have the best food in all of America. However, it was here that I experienced some of the best German food of my life. The atmosphere is quaint and is comprised of a beer garden in the back and an authentic feeling beer hall toward... More

Good selection of Bavarian food and beer. Pretzel was really good!! Atmosphere was fine and relaxed. Service was slow and a bit lacking. Nice place, would go back, but probably not line up for it.

Met friends for a drink and the place was packed on a Saturday night (very good sign). We enjoyed a few German beers and ended up going across the street for dinner. I have eaten here before and it is always top notch.

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
