Potatoes, potatoes and more potatoes

Walking into this restaurant, you immediately notice the smells of Potatoes. The place was packed, standing room only. Worth the wait. I offered the fish cod, with lemon butter chives and mixed vegetables. Great flavor, moist, flaky, my entree was divine.

I'm lucky that this place is only a block from where I live, but I'd still be a regular if it wasn't. I've traveled extensively through Germany (mainly Bavaria), and I've eaten at my fair share of German bistros in the US. This is simply the most authentic and the best outside of Germany that I've experienced. And they have... More

Definitely not the place for a quiet, intimate dinner. However, easily the best German food I have eaten outside of Germany. If the awesome beer selection does not intrigue you, there is A very nice selection of German and Austrian wines. Portions are large, be warned if you are not really hungry, and prices are very fair for the quality.... More

The food in New York City beats many places in the United States and may have the best food in all of America. However, it was here that I experienced some of the best German food of my life. The atmosphere is quaint and is comprised of a beer garden in the back and an authentic feeling beer hall toward... More

Good selection of Bavarian food and beer. Pretzel was really good!! Atmosphere was fine and relaxed. Service was slow and a bit lacking. Nice place, would go back, but probably not line up for it.

Met friends for a drink and the place was packed on a Saturday night (very good sign). We enjoyed a few German beers and ended up going across the street for dinner. I have eaten here before and it is always top notch.

Feels like you are in Berlin! German staff make it seem like a true biergarten. Good beers on tap and groovy rock music. Had a great time.

Visited on Saturday evening 12/20/14 with family for drinks. One of the bartenders made a statement to friends of his at the bar "They executed those two police officer's in my neighborhood for payback in Ferguson. He then smiled from ear to ear. This was overheard and witnessed by two members of my family. We will never step foot in... More

Loved the quaint atmosphere! And the food was delicious - even my 15 year old daughter loved it. Only downside is that the subway stop is several blocks away so for those who don't want to walk, a cab would be in order ($10 or so). My husband wasn't crazy about the neighborhood around it but I didn't find it... More

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
