Big appetite in a small place

OK, so this time we went to Iroha, the restaurant above Hagi that we went last week. Iroha serves more sushi & sashimi platters compared to their "sibling" downstairs. I love raw fish so we ordered sushi sashimi combo, bento box and assorted grilled appetizers on skewers. It was awesome! Good... read more

We came upon this restaurant as we were starving and desperate for food and the menu outside looked pretty good. Upon arrival the staff were friendly and seated us. The restaurant's interior is small and simple. To eat I had some sushi followed by a sashimi salad however ordered the sushi as a starter and salad as a main. The... More

My title line really sums it up. This is quite an authentic Japanese restaurant, with a very extensive menu, just 5-minutes walk from Time Square. The prices are very reasonable, given such an elaborate and authentic Japanese menu so close to the center of Manhattan. The food is fine, but just about... slightly crosses the "acceptable" line but does not... More

Saw a sign for the $14 bento box lunch special to go. Ordered the sushi box and the chicken teriyaki box. Both very tasty and came with miso soup. Good deal!

Went here for the first time tonight, and it was a great dinner. It's not your typical Japanese restaurant. There are many different little dishes, so you can say it's like Japanese "tapas". The sashimi was very fresh and tasty. This was the only typical Japanese dish we had. Here are some of my favorite items from tonight: fried frog... More

We were in Times Square and wanted something different to eat. We walked by the restaurant at first because we were going to try the sister restaurant downstairs; too crowded. We went to this one and the wait was only 15 minutes. The service was very good and she gave us recommendations. Each of us had a different dish and... More

I really enjoyed my Bento box for lunch! Came with delicious bowl of Miso soup, a small well prepared salad with ginger dressing. The box had sliced tuna and salmon sashimi...2 pieces of each, 6 sushi rolls of your choosing...I had the salmon / avocado rolls. 3 small tempura fish chunks, and a small portion of sliced beef with onions.... We went to this restaurant for our meal a total of 4 times during our stay in NYC last December. A must try is their Beef Udon which I think is really nice. Shorter waiting time compare to Hagi and Sapporo and in my opinion better service.

We arrived at about 2pm, on a very cold NY day. Table available for 5 of us, warmed up with miso soup and delicious food. Everyone walked away very full and satisfied. Good choice for family.

My friend I decided to try out yet another Japanese place I(and he) haven't touched after living here for a while. Who would go to Japanese joint in Times Square... well we did. After few minutes of wait(same as downstairs Hagi... lots of midtown yuppies and tourists), we were seated. It is not easy for Japanese to pack all cuisines... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
