Great Food and The Best Bread Around

The Vinegar Factory is really an old factory on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. There is something very unique about this charming and well-stocked store. You can get all the fixings that you need for the essential New York Style breakfast, lunch or dinner OR you can sit in the delightful some... read more

Great Food Market, wonderful, fish, meats and all thing good to eat. About the best smoked salmon around, cut to order from various salmons. Good Fruits and Veg and wonderful Breads, pastries and prepared foods.

I was exploring areas nearby and accidentally walked into this place. At first glance it appeared as an interesting find (and I did not know at the time of Eli’s various stores). But after closer examination I just saw overpriced breads and grocery with unimpressive service.

Perhaps the most unnecessarily overpriced grocery and bakery on the upper east side. Eli Zabar (of the west side deli family) open a bakery, grocery, and cafe to fill a need that has been more than fulfilled. We now have Whole Foods, Fairway, and Eric Kayser. Best of all, we have Costco at 116th Street that sells Eli's bread for... More

If you get a buzz from just looking at great food, then put Eli's Vinegar Factory on your must-do list. You'll see a huge selection of bread, pastries, cheese, olives, coffee, oil, vinegar, and other products, some local and many from Europe. The store also offers a wide array of take-out foods, all of gourmet quality. Everything is beautifully set... More

Consistently good, never busy, basic menu - high quality food and of course, great bread and really good coffee makes The Vinegar Factory a regular of ours. The location upstairs from Eli's flagship store, means a convenient shop for delicacies on the way home is a must. The east side river walk begins nearby to help walk off breakfast and... More

Went to Brunch here on Mothers day. It was an interesting experience. I thought that the menu was varied enough so that everyone in our group could find something they would like. There was everything from Omelets to Salads to Chicken Pot Pie. I had the country omelet with hash browns. The omelet was very good and cooked perfectly. The... More

Great place for brunch and fancy food gifts. We were a family of 6 and the service was very attentive. Lox and eggs were delicious.

On a Saturday afternoon you could shoot a cannon across the upstairs restaurant and not hit a person. I'm new to this neighborhood so I'm strolling the streets to discover my new home. From the exterior, and I crossed the street to see what the Vinegar Factory was, it resembled Brooklyn Brewery in Williamsburg. But it's not that. There's a... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
