They always say that if the locals eat there, it is a good place to go. Chef made me a futomaki role that was not on the menu, and it was delicious. House sake and a custom roll and it was a great late night meal if you are in the area.

This is where the Japanese eat Japanese food. The special dish is the fugi. Very reasonable prices for the high quality of food and service.

I noticed this popular corner restaurant as I was heading into the Metro and stopped in for lunch. Excellent value box lunch included self serve buffet salad bar that was fresh and wonderful.

Sushi rice is supposed to have sushi vinegar flavor, but it was not at all. It was not sushi, it was rice ball. Skewers were ok, though.

I have gone Azusa numerous times over the years and it remains consistent. It is a good value for dining in midtown. The lunch specials are usually a good deal. It is a place where fiends meet for lunch. It is not your typical expense account type of restaurant. That being said they have not updated the decor in a... More

I have eaten a lot of Japanese food and so far, nothing beats Morimoto in Philly. However, Azusa was one of the worst Japanese meals/sushi I have ever had. From what I hear, it was on top of its game years ago--now I can't imagine it going much lower. All cooked food we got was fair to middlin' and the... More

Took an impromptu trip to NYC for a little shopping and a "foodie" adventure. Walking toward GCS on 44th I noticed Azusa and decided I could use a little snack! Had a nice bottle of sake and 4 or 5 different types of sushi. Very knowledgeable staff, and top quality ingredients. Will definitely try for dinner on next trip.

Azusa of Japan is a great little hidden gem on 44th street. I offten go there for their lunch specials which change everyday but usually include a piece of Japanese style fried chicken, soup, salad and sushi/sashimi option. HIGHLY recommend the Wasabi Pork Dumplings - unbelievably good and pack a very strong punch (these are usually on the dinner menu... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
