Real New York!

If you're looking for a real taste of old New York then look no further than The Old Town Bar near The Flatiron. Great beer, great wings and a great atmosphere. It's more spit and sawdust than sophistication but it's where the locals go, so give it a go!

Say you've been shopping/touring all day and are now in Union Square, thirsty and hungry. Come to Old Town for a burger and a cold one. The best. I used to live in Gramercy and would go here every so often for their awesome burgers and draft beers. The place has a wonderful old New York feel without beating you... More

Unique historic atmosphere, friendly and down to earth staff (was lucky enough to be taken on my first visit by a friend of the owner, who joined us for a time). Nice and cool on a hot day; good honest food, and best Guinness outside of Ireland.

There are tons of famous pubs in the city, but my favorite is the off the beaten path of my start to The Second Ave Pub Crawl - Old Town Bar. I brought friends in from Austin, Texas here in May and it is still the comfortable, cozy pub it's always been. Oh, and the history...

cool to watch one of the last existing dumb-waiters in NYC in action. food is good. cool architecture from last century. great to see it's still kickin' after all these years. great cheeseburgers. legendary franks. even the calamari was tender.

One of the ten oldest bars in NYC so we stopped in for a pint. It was cool but nothing as exciting as Say a Petes or McSorleys.

While making a pub crawl of the ten oldest bars in NYC, we visited Old Town Bar. This place reeked of history, the place was crowded and loud and the food and beer great. Anyone interested in the history of NYC nightlife must visit Old Town.

My husband and I headed here for dinner on a Saturday evening after spotting it on a 'best wings' blog site. When we arrived the downstairs bar was packed so we went upstairs to the dining room and nearly walked straight out again. The place is certainly in need of some TLC but the sandwiches and wings were really very... More

Another NYC classic not to be missed. Many original features such as the back bar, bar top itself and to my knowledge, the last working dumb waiter in NYC. Friendly staff and a great burger too.

When I'm in the mood for a burger, it has to be good. No generic burger for me. I heard this place had one of the top burgers in the area, so I had to stop in. Wow am I glad I did. I ordered the cheeseburger with cheddar, and it was so juicy and fresh. You can even taste... More

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighborhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of the city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets - much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighborhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being home to a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
