We stayed at The Lombardy across the street, and ate lunch here one day. Prices in line with mid-town; but the food was really really good. Ask for the Prix Fix menu if it isn't automatically offered. Pleasant décor and very good service.

Montebello is a bit of an anachronism, and that's a good thing. This classic white tablecloth Italian restaurant, situated in the East 50s, is defiantly anti-trendy, and wonderfully traditional. Service is polite and old school. Entrees are diverse and well prepared. A great place for business or a family dinner.

Chose this restaurant even after seeing reviews that were all over the "review map". It was a good choice. The staff was friendly and helpful, food very good and quiet enough for conversation. We were there on a Friday night for Restaurant Week. This is not gourmet food but good solid "Momma in the kitchen food". The tomato sauce was... More

We used the take-out service from Montebello once before and it was very good. We decided to try eating in while in New York this week. Montebello is a small Italian restaurant with a warm and friendly staff that makes you feel like family. The ambiance is warm and traditional. We started with a basket of bread and olive oil... More

Went here due to 1) restaurant week and 2) decent reviews at zagat. Simply Disappointed in food. If restaurant week is a way to get new customers, this was a big swing and a miss. Kicking myself for a bad call when there are so many good restaurants out there--and we were in town for just a few days on... More

Excellent ambience and service. Enjoyed our meal, especially rack of lamb. However, I am surprised that there was no selection of wines by glass aside from a red and a white table wine.

This is a very warm and friendly authentic Italian restaurant in the heart of Manhattan. Great fish, fresh homemade pastas, attentive service. I had a wonderful striped bass coated with almonds and sautéed in garlic and olive oil. My wife had grilled shrimp in a cognac sauce over dreamy risotto. Best meal we have had in NY in a long... During our recent stay in New York City, Montebello was the first restaurant we dined at. We wanted a nice lunch, but didn’t have a whole lot of time. Montebello was nice and close to our hotel and I had read good reviews here at TA, so that's where we went. It is a traditional Italian restaurant with a bit... More

We tried this restaurant for dinner on Oct 3. We are sorry we bothered. Waiters standing around in an almost empty restaurant, talking among themselves, should have been a clue. Poor service, an average menu and less than average food. Perhaps the chef had the night off. In any event, if I were you I would try somewhere else.

It was the Friday night before Yom Kippur, so not sure if that was an issue, but the place was very very quiet. The service was attentive which was nice, but they did not have much else to do. Some of the food was quite good--the salads and pastas, but the fish dishes were so-so. Certainly not bad, or fishy,... More
