Great French Bistro for People Watching

I enjoy having lunch here and people-watching the many New York characters that walk along Sixth Avenue in this part of town (upper Greenwich Village). This place makes a cafe au lait like no other, served in a big bowl with lion head handles. My faves are the arugula salad with grapefruit and... read more

This is little more than a glorified diner. "Buttermilk pancakes with fresh fruit" = two cold, rubbery pancakes, with 4 strawberries sliced into half, for $12. I don't think I've ever eaten pancakes in the USA that weren't in a stack of three. But fine, three is too many. However, fruit salad implies more than one fruit, and perhaps in... More

This place is a total Scam! I went for dinner with a group of friends and ordered Duck Confit ($16 usd). After the frist bite I realized it was in fact chicken!!! I let my friends at the table taste it to double check and confirm that I was right. After telling the waiter that my plate was not duck,... More

We were pressed for time and needed to have breakfast before heading out for an afternoon sail. We stopped in to French Roast at the suggestion of our hotel and loved it! The atmosphere is wonderful -- Parisian and charming. The service was great and quick (which we appreciated) and the crowd seemed to be a local group. Our food... More

We dropped by for a quick meal - eight people. Most of us ordered burgers. It was very tasty and the fries excellent! All at an affordable price! Enjoy!

The staff were so polite, friendly and talkative and the food was incredible. I feel like we robbed them with the price we paid. It was a great night, thanks to this place. Well worth going.

Walked past this place a few times last week while in the village with my daughter and decided to give it a try. It's quite unassuming but after reading some other reviews here my husband and I decided to try it for dinner. It was terrific. The following week we went back one day for breakfast. Service was friendly both... More

This was right around the corner from our hotel, and the food, coffee, and service were good enough that we ended up eating breakfast there three out of our four mornings in the city (we only found it on the second day). I'm (ovo-) vegetarian and found I had several options, my favourite being the french toast with berries. Friendly... More

Four of us had supper here in October of 2012. I really cannot recall what any of us had but we all shared bites and we were all very pleased with our choices. This is a corner restaurant in the Village and I'm sure it caters to locals. Wouldn't hesitate to return.

Staying in Greenwich Village

Neighborhood Profile
Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighborhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighborhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.
