We were recommended to French Roast in the neighbourhood where we were staying and it became our go-to place for a great breakfast or brunch. Coffee really good and yummy french toast & berries for breakfast. We loved sitting in the window watching New Yorkers go by and planning what we would do for the day. Lovely wait staff and... More

French Roast is one of my go-to places whenever I am in this part of the City. It is an attractive french style coffee house, but so much more. Excellent booze, very good food (Including French classics and pastries), fine responsive and friendly service and terrific coffee. What's not to like? Oh yes...a fun bar as well. Hey, you are... Everything was good, nice staff, decent menu options, a little overpriced for the sizes and what you get but overall nice.

Had dinner here on our first night in the States. I've been before for coffee, never dinner. I had chicken which was fine but my wife's mussels were pretty bad - old, tough, unappealing. Could do better!

Came here after cheap massage on 8th Street for a drink and some food. Hot artichoke dip and martinis - yay! Friendly barkeeps and chill atmosphere. It is not just for eggs, bacon and cafe au lait!

This is little more than a glorified diner. "Buttermilk pancakes with fresh fruit" = two cold, rubbery pancakes, with 4 strawberries sliced into half, for $12. I don't think I've ever eaten pancakes in the USA that weren't in a stack of three. But fine, three is too many. However, fruit salad implies more than one fruit, and perhaps in... More

I enjoy having lunch here and people-watching the many New York characters that walk along Sixth Avenue in this part of town (upper Greenwich Village). This place makes a cafe au lait like no other, served in a big bowl with lion head handles. My faves are the arugula salad with grapefruit and parmesean, the classic salade nicoise, the croque... This place is a total Scam! I went for dinner with a group of friends and ordered Duck Confit ($16 usd). After the frist bite I realized it was in fact chicken!!! I let my friends at the table taste it to double check and confirm that I was right. After telling the waiter that my plate was not duck,... More

Staying in Greenwich Village

Neighborhood Profile
Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighborhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighborhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.
