A Very Acceptable French Bistro In Greenwich Village

Like a lot of people we had a Groupon for a three course meal for two plus a bottle of wine There were 4 of us, so double the offer, and everything, including the service was very good. and it was delicious. Would I go there without a Groupon; probably not.

It is always great to know that an independent restaurant that has been in business for over 36 years (it opened back in February 1979, about 3 minutes' walk from the present location) is still well alive and kicking no matter what transitory trends are in vogue now, organic, local, fusion, etc. What is even better to know is that... Wonderful wonderful wonderful! Our first visit and we will definitely be back. Great menu and food, great atmosphere, beautiful interior and exterior and great value for money. What set it apart from other restaurants was the service, which was a model of what exemplary service should be.

Daily prix fixe specials offer many options for 3 course meals below $30; frequent Groupons offer the same plus a bottle of wine for $69 a couple. The regular menu is much more expensive, however. Best of all, the food is consistently excellent--try the mussels; calamari; trout; duck; roast chicken; steak frites; and apple tart. Cute, cozy atmosphere; excellent friendly... More

It has been perhaps 20 years since we ate here. I'm not sure why it took so long to return, but it won't be that long again. The food was excellent. The foie gras did not disappoint as an appetizer. We had 2 specials for entrees- grilled Mediterranean sea bass was wonderful and the salmon risotto was also delicious. The... More

My wife and I ate at Chez Jacqueline this past Saturday evening and we've frankly got mixed feelings. The restaurant is a cozy little place that was only somewhat busy at 6:30 (less than half full) though, interestingly, all the seats at the bar appeared to have have been taken. By 7:30 the entire restaurant was full and lively, with... More

Chez Jacqueline at 72 MacDougal St, in New York City's Greenwich Village is a charming French bistro with relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. The salads are very good and the trout almondine is exceptional. The cheese plate is small (three different cheeses) but very good.

This west village institution is serving up authentic french cuisine in a relaxing and intimate atmosphere. The service was good and dessert fantastic. I cannot wait to go back. I had the beef stew; it melted in my mouth!

This restaurant was absolutely excellent! My mother and I came here, last night around 9:30, and were treated like we were the only two people in the place! Excellent service, food, music (Live piano music), and a comfortable atmosphere. Although it might be pricey for some, it is well worth it. The waiters are very attentive. For great french food,... Decided to make use of a groupon and wanted to have a decent meal in the city. When we got there there was nobody at the door to receive us. Guy at the bar looked at us for 3 secs and resumed his business behind the bar without even at least greeting us and asking us to wait for the... More

Staying in Greenwich Village

Neighborhood Profile
Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighborhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighborhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.
