Top 5 For Sure!

On a recent 5 day visit to NYC with my son, we had pizza every day - and never at the same place twice. (Only one of the reasons that I love New York!). I can honestly say that the pizza was great at all five spots, but one thing's for sure.....John's has CHARACTER! This was exactly what I had... read more

It turns out that long before my wife and I met, we each frequented John's when we lived in Greenwich Village. So on a long weekend back to New York (we now live in California), we decided to relive our youthful memories. Not necessarily the best idea. The service was as surly as ever and made us feel at home... More

Wow it's Summer in the Big Apple and one of the best rated pizza places either can't afford better air conditioning or thinks they have such great food they can ignore the Needs of their customers comfort. Don't sweat it out at this old place when plenty of other pizza joints have similar fare, better menu choices, and care about... More

I ate there twice last month, it's a classic for a reason, the dough is excellent, perfectly cooked and the ingredients are simple but of good quality. Exactly what makes a good pizza. If you want better, you need to either a wood oven and make it yourself (even though you might fail) or take a flight ticket to Italy.

This was recommended to us by a NY local. Cash only, not a lot of seating, so if you are a large group (as we were, party of 6), get there early. The pizza is delish and the beer is cold.

Saw this place on a food show, went on a Tuesday night. Doesn't matter what night you go it's packed. And with good reason. Had a Pepperoni... Don't know what to say other than Delicious.. They also only take cash. Well worth a try.

The pizza is amazing - fresh ingredients prepared to perfection. Cannot wait to go again. Service was superb, prices very reasonable.

My wife and I first ate at Johns 10 years ago. We were blown away by the pizza and the service. This time around the service was unfortunately not great. The pizza quality was the same. The staff is overrun with tourists but they left us at the bar for 45 minutes and simply forgot to call our number. The... More

From the outside (or the inside for that matter), it may not appear that this place serves up some of the finest pizza in NYC...but appearances can be deceiving. John's serves awesome, classic Italian pizza in an authentic 'dive' setting. Why is there a line outside of this place every night? For the same reason that this place has been... More

Had to try this pizza when we saw Tom Brady's picture eating their pizza in the restaurant's window. Jon Stewart too. I loved this pizza. Not too much sauce-I hate runny pizza. It has a very thin crust. The cheese was perfect. The actual restaurant is just a little place without fancy decorations. But it's NY at its finest! Delicious!

Staying in West Village

Neighborhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
