Always wanted to try Johns

Great day in the village and after going to some great shops. Johns was a must. Pizza (cheese pie) was very good and server was too. My son and I shared a phenomenal meatball parm. We all shared a house salad too. Just enough for 4 adults. I'm glad I finally visited Johns. Classic place amidst... read more

I came back to the old neighborhood recently and stopped in with a friend for a pizza. It was midday during the week and bustling. Although there was a line, everyone was seated fairly quickly. The interiors have not changed much, if at all, in many years. When I lived in the Village in the 80's and 90's, John's Pizza... More

Visited on 29th December and had researched the best pizza places to eat in new York before our trip there was a que out of the door and down the street when we got there mid afternoon which has to be a good sign when you go to a restaurant we got inside within about half an hour and ordered... Make no mistake, this is a no frills experience. The place positively exudes history, booths are (deliberately) covered in years worth of graffiti and the cash only service is taciturn, but prompt. Good pizza, but not, in our opinion, the best in NYC. However, if you're on Bleeker, make the pilgrimage...

The pie here is nothing short of phenomenal. John's is no frills but it's a neat place that's been around the West Village for years. You will not be disappointed by their pizza. Right up there with the best in NYC. They don't have a full bar but do have beer and wine. Also it's cash only. And you may... More

Due to the hype we thought we were going to have the best NY style pizza but it wasn't. We asked for it to be reheated and it was returned to us blackened on the crust (inedible). I noticed another table had the same issue. Now the waiter said something about it coming back black but we thought he was... More

Staying in West Village

Neighborhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
