Away from the Tourists, and decent bar food!

There are at least 5 good points to the Half King. (It was our (Drink Club NYC) first visit there. 1. It's far enough from the subway that wandering tourists will never find it! 2. There is a lot of space and an accommodating staff. 3. Hasn't everyone wanted to eat Buffalo Balls? (We had... read more

Stopped in for refreshments from the highline. Drinks are ridiculously expensive. Service was so rude that I left no tip. Would not recommend.

First time in New York City. My girlfriend and I were hanging around after visiting the US Intrepid and skating at Chelsea Piers, with no schedule at all. We walked all the way through the High Line, and decided to have a brunch at the Half King. We ordered a nachos bowl with not much expectations and it was simply... More

I stuck my head in here after walking along the Highline for an hour. Glad i did. Amazing craft ale selection and from what I was told they do a breakfast burrito that is HUGE! The guy behind the bar was polite and nice to chat to.

It was my husbands first trip to NYC over christmas 2014 and was keen to visit the High Lines - we were feeling a bit hungry so took a de-tour and stumbled unto Half King - what a nice little place! We were greeted straight away and taken to a table, very clean and looked so pretty with the lights... More

I came upon this restaurant because I happen to be visiting the High lines. I am a native new yorker and this was my first visit to the Highlines with that being said, I was hungry and got off on 23rd street and there was The Half King it kinda looked like a pub restaurant, I decided to check it... When in NYC we get taken to lots of places and have been to this establishment on two occasions and the first was mediocre but decided everybody deserves a second chance and I only wish we had not bothered as we paid a lot of money for pub grub and it advertises itself as a restaurant. I don't want to... More

Although Half King pre-existed the Highline, it’s a good spot for visitors of that attraction to have a beer and burger, or something else equally as comforting on the menu. I stopped here with out of town guests for a brew. We shared an order of sliders (5) and fries and relaxed in the garden enjoying the warm fall weather.... More

Neighborhood Profile
Chelsea
Home to hundreds of art galleries, beautiful brownstones, and one of New York’s newest and most popular attractions, Chelsea is one of the city’s jewels when it comes to neighborhood life. The contemporary art scene is an integral part of the neighborhood’s identity, with gallery openings almost every night of the week and countless exhibits to explore. As a longtime hub of gay culture in New York City, it’s also a diverse district with a vibrant nightlife scene. The opening of the High Line, an abandoned elevated train track transformed into a world-class pedestrian park, gave this neighborhood new life as a tourist destination. The High Line provides visitors with a tranquil, elevated space with incomparable views, providing an unparalleled way to experience the city.
