Description: Grand Central Oyster Bar is the ultimate experience for any seafood...
Grand Central Oyster Bar is the ultimate experience for any seafood. Lover. From the market to your plate, we've spent nearly a hundred years perfecting our seafood dishes. Every morning, the chef goes to the New Fulton Fish Market to personally pick the day's freshest seafood. Everything from lobster to different kinds of fish is hand-picked for the best flavor and freshness. We're most famous for our oysters though, with over 30 different varieties on any given day. Have your dishes prepared minimally, or choose to have your meal in the form of a po' boy. Whatever floats your boat. To go with your Oysters, our extensive wine list has over 400 wines by the glass or bottle, 55 of which are priced under $38. We love sharing our great seafood, so we like to keep everything, including our prices, accessible. Come in for our Happy Hours (menu on website), where you and your friends can pick up some fresh food and drinks at prices so good it's fishy! Across our restaurant we have more than 450 tables across two dining rooms. Traditional experiences are supplemented by our saloon, which features a large bar. Instead, you could choose to sit at Oyster Bay, where you can watch your Oysters being shucked. The Grand Central Oyster Bar has always been a social experience, bustling with buzz, activity and a rich history. There is truly nowhere else like it!

Lovely food, great menu and fun place to eat

It was easy to walk in and get a table on a Friday night which surprised me. The menu is huge and varied so that everyone could eat as much or as little as they liked. The place was huge but the service was great. Can't fault the place.

It has been there for so many years, and that is special. Grand Central Station is special too, with a long history. The restaurant is big, bustling and busy. A fun menu, average service, average food, average-plus atmosphere. I am glad we went, but it might be years before we go again. All in all a pleasant evening.

Yes, it's noisy -- it's in a train station, with the original tile ceilings. And it's big -- lots of people packed into three different areas (table service, counter service, and the bar). Don't go expecting a quiet meal in subdued lighting. But it has the most extensive menue of fresh fish you could possibly want, and a wide variety... More

Great martinis during happy hour! Very strong! Didn't try the food but it looked amazing. Serving staff very friendly, efficient & polite. A bustling place to chillout with a drink or a meal.

I hate to leave negative reviews, however - maybe it could bring a message. It was a worst experience in many many many years. Food was still good - after we managed to get it, but the whole "entry". It is scare, I doubt, I will ever dare to go there again. It is probably worse, that going to DMV,... More

We ate here on our last visit to NYC and didn't remember that we thought it was average last time.....seafood is basically ok.....a bit over cooked and portions too large. Service was swift but not terribly friendly but server did expect his 20% tip ! We will remember for our next NYC trip and give it a miss.

As an oyster affectionado I have tried oysters in a number of place in Manhattan. This is the only place I wouldn't go back to. Highly over priced, hurried, noisy atmosphere, so-so service. If you want oysters to the John Dory Oyster bar or Smith & Wollensky Steak House instead.

I think I had high hopes of having oysters and Champagne at this bar, but that's not really the vibe. There was no champers on offer when we went to the Oyster bar, and several of the beers weren't available. There was a wide selection of natural oysters - some fantastic, others pretty horrible. The staff were nice enough. The... More

We're all used to uncooperative maître-d's in NYC restaurants. But an uncooperative bartender?? Who refused to serve me a drink while I waited for my table? (the place was only 2/3 full). Just as well, we took our business elsewhere and enjoyed friendly service and great food at Wolfgang's Steakhouse at 4 Park Ave. Oyster Bar management should have a... More

Was expecting quite a bit after reading reviews and looking at website . But was underwhelmed . It is very loud and cavernous which we were prepared for . Service was efficient but not overly attentive or friendly . Food was "ok" Popcorn shrimps , fried oysters and catch of the day were fine , accompanying veg for the latter... More

Oh dear -- we're very disappointed to read this. 'Okay' is not good enough, and I'm sorry if your experience was just that. We set very high standards for ourselves and it's disheartening that we didn't meet them for you. I would like to apologize if we failed to meet your expectations, but please come back if you're ever in... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
