Description: Grand Central Oyster Bar is the ultimate experience for any seafood. Lover. From the market to your plate, we've spent nearly a hundred years perfecting our seafood dishes. Every morning, the chef goes to the New Fulton Fish Market to personally pick the day's freshest seafood. Everything from lobster to different kinds of fish is hand-picked for the best flavor and freshness. We're most famous for our oysters though, with over 30 different varieties on any given day. Have your dishes prepared minimally, or choose to have your meal in the form of a po' boy. Whatever floats your boat. To go with your Oysters, our extensive wine list has over 400 wines by the glass or bottle, 55 of which are priced under $38. We love sharing our great seafood, so we like to keep everything, including our prices, accessible. Come in for our Happy Hours (menu on website), where you and your friends can pick up some fresh food and drinks at prices so good it's fishy! Across our restaurant we have more than 450 tables across two dining rooms. Traditional experiences are supplemented by our saloon, which features a large bar. Instead, you could choose to sit at Oyster Bay, where you can watch your Oysters being shucked. The Grand Central Oyster Bar has always been a social experience, bustling with buzz, activity and a rich history. There is truly nowhere else like it!

Old fashioned, counter-type restaurant in a historical place: Grand Central Station. NE clam chowder and calamari were very good. Service was top notch. Fun to watch the kitchen prepare many meals...it's a big place! Hey it's NYC, a little pricier than most lunch counters. Enjoyed the ambiance.

Really thought we would like this restaurant more than we did. Food was excellent. Service was good not great. The room is huge and very loud. Tables are very close together. It's very pricey. Would not go back.

A must visit if you holiday in. NYC. Firstly grand central station is like no other station I have visited before. Secondly the Oyster Bar is a must see. The food is well priced and the menu is vast. Obviously there are a lot of oysters to choose from but there are chicken, fish and steak options as well. The... More

Had been recommended this restaurant by friends and it didn't disappoint. Had booked on line before we travelled and this worked very well. Took some finding but once we asked we were directed to it, buried in the heart of this iconic building. We had a good table with a magnificent view along the length of the restaurant and our... A long awaited trip to grand central and a visit to the famed oyster bar. We went on monday. I had the shrimp po boy, my wife has calamari and chowder and my cousin ate a crab salad sandwich. All were terrible. The sandwiches were on soggy bread, virtually no crab in the salad and the calamari was overcooked. And... More

It's such a shame to see you weren't impressed with your visit, especially since you came in with such high expectations. Your portions should have been plenty and well-cooked, so we're surprised to see it was anything less. We can only hope you'd be willing to give us another chance when you're back in New York -- we'd love another... More

Having arrived in N.Y. from Australia we had only been there 3 days and we couldn't wait to try this restaurant we had heard so much about. We arrived about 6:00PM and seated. What a disappointment, the meal was ,at best, average, the service was rushed (chowder and main meal arriving at the same time) giving us the feeling we were not paying customers... More

It's such a shame to see you were disappointed with your visit, Nick, especially since you came to us with such high expectations. You should have had a memorably good meal with excellent service, and we're sorry that your visit was anything less. We'd love to show you our best the next time you're in town -- hopefully you'd be... More

My cousin came in from Oregon and wanted bluefish (go figure, right?). We called all around the city and the only place we found that is currently serving bluefish was the Oyster Bar in Grand Central Station. I haven't been there in years and the place has been restored to its former glory and the menu is diverse and unique,... More

Roger, as we said before, it's great to hear that you and your cousin had a happy reunion with us -- it sounds like we were all you remembered. On that note, we're sorry if the noise was a bit of an issue -- we can understand how it might be frustrating, but we hope you'll chalk it up to... More

Someone told me you have to go even if you don't eat Oysters. They were so right, the most wonderful architecture of Guastavino with his tiled vaulted tiled ceilings (also seen at the Immigration centre Ellis Island). This place opened with Grand Central Station back in 1913, it is on the lower level of Grand Central, 42nd & Vanderbilt. We... More

Visited on Sept 2, after reading about the Oyster bar in various guide books. I also had read the reviews here on Trip Advisor, so we came with open minds, as so many of the reviews go either way. We arrived after 4pm for a very late but light lunch. We were seated quickly, which we noticed was common here,... More

It's a shame we couldn't impress you more on your visit, especially since you came in to see us from out of town. As you've described, it sounds like we were a little short-staffed before the dinner service. We'll definitely take your feedback to heart as we strategize for busy nights in the future. As far as your meal goes,... More

It's so upsetting to see this mix-up -- we would never want to mislead you about the days we're open, especially since it looks like you were visiting on holiday. We're so sorry for any inconvenience, and we hope you'd be willing to give us a second chance the next time you're visiting New York. All the best, Grand Central... More
