Description: Grand Central Oyster Bar is the ultimate experience for any seafood...
Grand Central Oyster Bar is the ultimate experience for any seafood. Lover. From the market to your plate, we've spent nearly a hundred years perfecting our seafood dishes. Every morning, the chef goes to the New Fulton Fish Market to personally pick the day's freshest seafood. Everything from lobster to different kinds of fish is hand-picked for the best flavor and freshness. We're most famous for our oysters though, with over 30 different varieties on any given day. Have your dishes prepared minimally, or choose to have your meal in the form of a po' boy. Whatever floats your boat. To go with your Oysters, our extensive wine list has over 400 wines by the glass or bottle, 55 of which are priced under $38. We love sharing our great seafood, so we like to keep everything, including our prices, accessible. Come in for our Happy Hours (menu on website), where you and your friends can pick up some fresh food and drinks at prices so good it's fishy! Across our restaurant we have more than 450 tables across two dining rooms. Traditional experiences are supplemented by our saloon, which features a large bar. Instead, you could choose to sit at Oyster Bay, where you can watch your Oysters being shucked. The Grand Central Oyster Bar has always been a social experience, bustling with buzz, activity and a rich history. There is truly nowhere else like it!

A great Oyster Bar

Grand Central Oyster Bar has been around for as long as I have worked in and visited New York, (for over 45 years) and what a great place to chill out. This time it was a pleasure visit and if you are passing through Grand Central a stopover is a must!

in the basement of Grand Central Station, New York, the Oyster bar is a bar where seafood is served to yuppies in a hurry, but also a fine restaurant. Very unassuming - it reminds a bit a large Italian trattoria, or a German biergarten, with red and white chequered table cloths - yet posh and stylish. You'll find there people... More

The Oyster Bar is of course a must see spot in New York; in the heart of the Grand Central Station. Nice ambiance and experienced personal. Unfortunately, we wnated to have the Oysters, but it took an hour to serve them. Instead we had the fried Oysters and Scallops. Ahh, very bad. The price of the bottle white wine was... More

Great lunch consisting of a great Clam chowder and the sweetest scallops, perfectly cooked. Great surroundings but book early. It was rammed!

I had a wonderful time. It was a Saturday afternoon, the place was not that busy. Happy hour was running with oysters, clams and many other things on the menu. It has a great wine list. The quality of the food is good, probably more than good, not excellent.

Great location and the Grand Central Oyster Bar has a certain ambiance. But the food is just a little better than average. You are over paying for the location. The service could be better, as only got refills for our drinks right before we left. It can be loud.

After a quick whirl around GCT, friends and I stopped into the Oyster Bar for oysters and a libation. I must confess, we each started off with a cup of Manhattan clam chowder. Delicious, fresh chunks of clam, potatoes, corn in a savory, zesty tomato based broth. Our palettes nearly sated, we went for more of the good stuff, and... More

this place is a classic. the building itself is worth a visit but the restaurant has got SO much history that it's amazing that it's still there. I have never needed reservations but I tend to go there for lunch. the oyster panroast is worth the trip alone!

We have always gone to this restaurant when we are visiting NYC. Previously it has always been for lunch, this last winter we had dinner there before a show. I have liked having lunch at the sit up bar but I was disappointed with our dinner experience. Rushed service like they wanted us out of there as soon as possible,... More

What a mixed bag, Bruce! I'm really happy that you've enjoyed lunch so consistently, but It's disappointing that your dinner experience was a bit of a let-down. Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
