Description: Grand Central Oyster Bar is the ultimate experience for any seafood...
Grand Central Oyster Bar is the ultimate experience for any seafood. Lover. From the market to your plate, we've spent nearly a hundred years perfecting our seafood dishes. Every morning, the chef goes to the New Fulton Fish Market to personally pick the day's freshest seafood. Everything from lobster to different kinds of fish is hand-picked for the best flavor and freshness. We're most famous for our oysters though, with over 30 different varieties on any given day. Have your dishes prepared minimally, or choose to have your meal in the form of a po' boy. Whatever floats your boat. To go with your Oysters, our extensive wine list has over 400 wines by the glass or bottle, 55 of which are priced under $38. We love sharing our great seafood, so we like to keep everything, including our prices, accessible. Come in for our Happy Hours (menu on website), where you and your friends can pick up some fresh food and drinks at prices so good it's fishy! Across our restaurant we have more than 450 tables across two dining rooms. Traditional experiences are supplemented by our saloon, which features a large bar. Instead, you could choose to sit at Oyster Bay, where you can watch your Oysters being shucked. The Grand Central Oyster Bar has always been a social experience, bustling with buzz, activity and a rich history. There is truly nowhere else like it!

Great chowder with classic atmosphere

Had a chance to visit the Oyster Bar at Grand Central Terminal after quite a few years and was glad I stopped by! I sat at the counter to get the full experience and enjoyed a wonderful bowl of Manhattan style clam chowder along with a cold draft beer. In addition to the great food, the people... read more

We ate there last Thursday. The oysters were to die for, and the black cod cooked to perfection. We will be back

Arrived at 1pm for luch and what an atmosphere! It was buzzing with activity and while waiting 10minutesfor a seat at the bar section my friend and I had a chance to study other people's plates. On recommendation from our waitress Nicole, we had had the Shigoku and Nauti Pilgrim oysters along with a lobster roll, fried shrimps along with... More

Went to lunch at the Grand Central Oyster Bar yesterday, Saturday March 27. O-YUM-O doesn't even begin to dscribe how scrumptious the seafood was. We had Cowboy oysters that were so big they needed to be cut into pieces. We tried several types of oyster and not one disappointed us. Then we ate Manhattan Clam Chowder. Oh mama Mia !... More

What an awesome review, Susan -- thank you so much! I have a very good feeling about the Crab cake sandwich. Hopefully you loved it as much as we do! It's always great to hear from people who love oysters as much as we do -- come back and see us again soon. All the best, James, General Manager More

The service was slow. We only managed to order about 15 minutes after sitting down. The oysters were alright. Probably we were expecting too much since we read all the raving reviews. The whispering walls outside the restaurant probably excited me more.

I'm really disappointed to learn that we fell short of your expectations, Jillian. Slow service is frustrating, and our busyness should never impact on your enjoyment. I know we can exceed your expectations -- I just hope you'll give us another shot in the future to do so. All the best, James, General Manager More

I'm really pleased you got a chance to stop by after all these years, and even happier that everything was great for you. A lot of people come here to people watch, and it isn't all that surprising given our diverse range of customers -- it's definitely one of my favorite things to do. I really hope it's not many... I have been here twice before and the service has improved greatly. Our waitress was very helpful and friendly and the food fresh and delicious. My only complaint would be there were not enough options to put your own selection of cold, fresh seafood together. Otherwise a perfect anniversary lunch.

Headed in for supper on a Wednesday night. As usual a great buzz of activity and great service. 18 West Coast Oysters from the raw bar (sweet and creamy) Manhattan Clam Chowder (none better) and grilled shrimp ( perfectly prepared). Always a treat!

A great place to stop for a drink and oysters. They have over 25 fresh oysters to choose from. It's also a great place to people watch.

We love people watching too, Mike! It's probably one of the best things about the location -- we get such interesting and different people in here. Glad you enjoyed the oysters as well! Stop by whenever you're in town again -- there's so many oysters left to try. All the best, James, General Manager More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
