Description: Grand Central Oyster Bar is the ultimate experience for any seafood...
Grand Central Oyster Bar is the ultimate experience for any seafood. Lover. From the market to your plate, we've spent nearly a hundred years perfecting our seafood dishes. Every morning, the chef goes to the New Fulton Fish Market to personally pick the day's freshest seafood. Everything from lobster to different kinds of fish is hand-picked for the best flavor and freshness. We're most famous for our oysters though, with over 30 different varieties on any given day. Have your dishes prepared minimally, or choose to have your meal in the form of a po' boy. Whatever floats your boat. To go with your Oysters, our extensive wine list has over 400 wines by the glass or bottle, 55 of which are priced under $38. We love sharing our great seafood, so we like to keep everything, including our prices, accessible. Come in for our Happy Hours (menu on website), where you and your friends can pick up some fresh food and drinks at prices so good it's fishy! Across our restaurant we have more than 450 tables across two dining rooms. Traditional experiences are supplemented by our saloon, which features a large bar. Instead, you could choose to sit at Oyster Bay, where you can watch your Oysters being shucked. The Grand Central Oyster Bar has always been a social experience, bustling with buzz, activity and a rich history. There is truly nowhere else like it!

I've been dying to eat at this restaurant for a long time. On my last visit to New York I had the opportunity to go to the Grand Central Oyster Bar. Maybe my expectations were vey high, but the experience in general was only "good". We ordered 3 different types of oysters from different locations and they came in a... More

Expensive, little atmosphere--unless you like cafeteria dining. Very noisy Fish was good, but should be at the prices they charge. Like a lot of seafood restaurant terrible vegetables, and potatoes. Wanted to try it, I did, but I wouldn't go back

I had good memories of a visit here about 10 years ago. Either my memories were enhanced by the passing of time or this place has pretty much deteriorated. It's still kind of a fun New York style, throw the food at you sort of place. The oysters were good. The Manhattan Clam Chowder was okay but bland. And as... More

The service and food that I paid is what I would expect from a fast food restaurant. The waitress did not talk to us and only expressed himself with showing his thumbs up or down an a few isolated words. He never asked if we wanted something else even after our glasses were empty on the table for over 20... More

Serving up the freshest, highest quality seafood is something we're never willing to compromise on, Martin, so I'm sorry that didn't come across during your meal with us. I'm also disappointed to hear you felt your server was inattentive. We certainly get busy, but that shouldn't impact the level of service you receive. As you'll see from our overall rating,... More

Love this place. Love the ambience, the style, location and the food. The king prawns were superb. A must visit in New York

Our oysters get a lot of attention, but I completely agree with you, Melanie -- the king prawns are a real hidden gem on the menu! Thanks for taking the time to point other TripAdvisors in our direction -- it's a huge compliment. Best wishes, Jeremy, General Manager More

Lovely place but the food really was disappointing. We ordered Oysters. These were really good to start the evening off but after that the meal really degenerated. The lobster cocktail had no flavour nor did the monkfish. Dover soles were edible but needed a sauce: none was offered. Service was slow and a bit grudging. It needed three requests to... More

I'm as disappointed as you are, Doc Hedley. It sounds like our food fell flat on this occasion, and I'm sad that we let you down. Thanks so much for the feedback -- I'll pass your comments on to the team. All the best, Jeremy, General Manager More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
