A gem in the Village

Visiting NYC from Colorado and wanted some fresh seafood but not a big stuffy seafood joint. Mary's seemed to fit the bill and the reviews justified a trip to the Village. First of all Mary's is small, very small. Maybe 22 seats at tables and 8 at the bar. At around 7 on a Tuesday we had a 30... read more

This is one of our favorite places to go when in NYC. While the inside is pretty cramped, and the wait is usually long (no resis), the food and casual ambiance definitely make it worth a visit. Must try the lobster roll and fried green tomatoes. I’m from the south (aka capital of fried…well everything), and I have to say... More

We stumbled upon this GEM for lunch and LOVED it! They are known for their lobster rolls, but we opted for other seafood dishes and a glass of white wine. The food was quality, you feel like a local. Must eat place in Greenwich Village!

We arrived and the place was packed! The wait was 30-minutes but we did not mind because we we're catching up. The host was very busy but friendly and offer a drink while we waited. We had the lobster knuckles for an appetizer, Seared Sea Scallops/Soba Noodles w/ Eggplant & Mango, and lobster roll. They were all so good.

We saw the reviews, we came, we ate, and we recommend. Nothing more to say, really, great atmosphere. We sat at the bar, which is always a bit like being in the audience at a show -- we saw how this small restaurant runs, efficiently, friendly, pumping out great food. The lobster rolls were sublime. If I find a better... More

Cannot recommend here enough. The food was so fresh & tasty and the staff were lovely. You can't book but we put our name on the list and went for a drink first. If you have a US number they will call you when there's a free table. The shrimp burger was absolutely delicious and the taster I had of... More

Small joint in West village off the tourist path. Excellent food. They don't take reservations, but its worth the wait. Everyone seemed to enjoy the Conch Fritter.

really nice seafood restaurant in the West village. The Lobster roll was great. Very popular (a number of people waiting outside for it to open, and filled up in no time).

I first went here in 2011 and wrote a scathing review. I went back and didn't regret it. I now go back on every trip - I can't recommend it enough. I even queued in the snow for a table. Mary's has become one of my favourite restaurants in NYC.

Mary’s Fish Camp had a lot to live up to. We met an American in Dukes Bar in London last October who lovingly described each stage of preparing a lobster roll at Mary’s Fish Camp, as observed from the bar that circles the kitchen. He said it was the best lobster roll in NYC. We arrived on a busy Saturday... More

Staying in West Village

Neighborhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
