JoJo offers relaxed yet elegant dining on two floors of a quaint, turn-of-the-century brownstone on the Upper East Side. The first of Jean-Georges’ restaurants in New York City, this neighborhood gem opened in 1991 to rave reviews. It was voted best new restaurant of the year by Esquire magazine and has retained its three-star status from the New York Times for 21 years. Regarding the name, JoJo was Chef Jean-Georges’ nickname as a young boy. Jojo is a hospitable setting for a casual dinner, special occasion, or private party. Guests can feel comfortable in jeans or in evening attire. The contemporary French menu still features some well-loved original dishes, including the Warm Valrhona Chocolate Cake.

Charming-ish

Yes, it is in a cute brownstone. Yes, it is Jean George's first NYC restaurant. Yes, it has some classic JG dishes from (many) years ago Is it Nougatine? Nope. Is it his flagship restaurant? Nope. BUT it is largely charming, and tiny, with thoughtfully prepared food and a small wine list. It... read more

This is a Jean Georges restaurant and lives up to his name. We were there during a recent restaurant week and had a 3 course dinner for $35. The first course we chose was a delicious butternut squash soup. Thick & creamy. Second course was fish - also delish! And dessert was a molten chocolate cake that was pure perfection.... More

This is a cool unique restaurant that is tucked out of the way in Manhattan. You might walk right past it! The ambiance is what you notice most when you walk in. An old house with 2 floors and almost every table is a good Table. The food is good and reasonably priced for NYC. The have a variety of... More

I had the greatest mimosa of my life at JoJo a few years back. It was brilliantly ruby colored and full of raspberry puree. I'll never forget it! I've been here twice and the setting is so perfect for a romantic date or intimate birthday dinner. It is an incredibly beautiful townhouse set in blue colors and classically French in... More

Our family enjoyed this special experience . There is even a touch of French in the look and feel to this restaurant . The food was equally special, and we enjoyed the mains , including duck , salmon , and veal. All meals were tasty and and the food prepared to top quality standard. The deserts were also special ,... We reserved an early table on Christmas day after this restaurant was mentioned in one of our guidebooks. We were seated promptly and the service was very efficient and not rushed even at the end when many people were waiting at the door. I am still dreaming about the NY strip I had. It was absolutely magnificent and the chips... More

This is the second time that we've been to Jojo. Unfortunately we did not enjoy it nearly as much as the first time. I understand that it was Christmas day and they were very busy but the service was much more uneven then the first time we went. I also remember them being more gluten friendly. This time I wait... Only dedicated foodies would put up with the crush at the door and the overbooking at the reservations desk. We waited and waited for our table. Fortunately, the strangers waiting with us were nice.....it turned into a party, albiet a party in an overheated closet. Management finally ponied up with wine and a Cosmo for me. The food was good,... More

What a gem of a restaurant. The dining room is a jewel of a place, with 2 floors of an old townhouse. The food is wonderful..Classic French but updated and really outstanding. Tuna shashimi, goat cheese profiteroles, lamb cooked 2 ways..all delicious. The service was very good..attentive but not fawning. All in all a delightful, romantic meal...we will come back!

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
