Comfy Wine Bar

This is the kind of wine bar where you can settle in for an entire evening while drinking delicious wines and eating various appetizer size treats the whole time. All the classic musts, dark setting, sexy background, beautiful bar, tucked away nooks, great food and above all the requisite wine... read more

This is a great no frills wine bar to meet with friends or potential first date. It's not too crowded. Great vibe. Lot's of wine selection. In terms of food, the bruschetta was great plate. I love their truffle panini :)

This place is dressed up like a proper cocktail bar but is some sort of hollywood facsimile or set. They have a cocktail drinks menu with about 6 or seven items, ok great - but really none of them were appealing. So I asked for something else a basic cocktail that any self-respecting bar can put together. Their response was... More

We went here only to drink something but it was a real surprize to find so many italian amaro at an honest price (8$ each) ! So if you are italian and you've been in New York for a long time and you are missing amaro, come here! Great service (apart from restrooms as usual in Nyc)

Jump on your Vespa and head over to Bar Veloce. Excellent Italian wine selection. Every one of their locations are consistently professional and an excellent place as a starting off point at the end of the day.

We were in Greenwich Village early and chanced upon this new site for Bar Veloce at the corner of Houston and Macdougal. A spare design for the interior but we found a nice wine selection -- especially the Barolo Parusso. Definitely a place to try!

We had a nice afternoon at Bar Veloce. If you like Italian wine, this is the place to go. A nice variety of wine, we tried the barolo, prosecco and killer vin santo. All were delicious. Bartender was very accomodating and atmosphere pleasant. Thought it was just a bit overpriced but it is New York.

Stopped in for a taste of Italian wine with family. We had a very pleasant bottle of Sicilian white wine (Etna Bianco) along with a small food pairing of olive tapenade on toast. Thomas C. was an outstanding and informative bartender. This was a very nice low stress wine bar.

Great wine bar with an excellent and varied selection of wines both by the bottle and glass. They have a lot of seating around the bar whch was perfect as I was waiting for a friend to join me after work and wanted to enjoy a glass or two while I waited. We ended up trying a few different varieties... More

My friend and I went to Bar Veloce on a busy Friday night. The wait staff is exceptionally polite, and kept a lookout for us while we waited for seating. The waiters were decked out in matching light colored suit jackets, which was a nice touch. Even though the seating was cramped -- we ended up on high, uncomfortable stools,... More

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
