A Salt and Battery (great name) is basically a chip shop, selling fish and chips and other deep fried delicacies, which you can wash down with a bottle of beer, or your favourite soft drink. It isn't a sit-down restaurant - there are two shelves, with stools, where you can perch while you eat your meal, or you you can... More

I love fish and chips, and when I heard about A Salt and Battery, had to go. It is the real deal; slightly larger than a hole in the wall; mostly a walk-in carry-out with scant room to sit, but oh-so fresh cod and haddock served piping hot on a massive bed of chips. Scrumptious! Other patrons raved about the... More

Great fish and chip shop straight out of Yorkshire. Mushy peas, pickled onions and the fish and chips are phenomenal.

Worth the trip to The Village! A little "hole in the wall" restaurant that has the most delicious fish and chips I have ever eaten!

This restaurant proves that a hole in the wall can turn out really good food. If you are in the mood for fish and chips, it's the go to in NYC. The haddock was fantastic.

Having had avery busy day of walking, on our way home we decided to do take out and eat it in our b&b. it did not disappoint. Great fresh fish cooked to order and great onion rings - these did need a bit more seasoning but were excellent. Lots of yummy tartare sauce. A great option.

Would not go here, another failed example of someone trying to pull off British food in the States. Poorly executed, the main issue is the service staff are just not interested. The food was average and does not represent British fish and chips.

We're 2 expats living in Manhattan and we come here often. They have lots of fish selections, all the traditional drinks and side options. Service is ok, but it is cooked fresh so takes time. The servers are always really friendly. Limited seating inside and a bench outside so bear this in mind, chips aren't the best when they've been... More

Staying in West Village

Neighborhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
