The Cupping Room Cafe was established in 1977. It was originally a wholesale coffee establishment. Different blends of coffee were brewed and tasted by perspective customers. This act of blending and tasting different coffees is called cupping - hence the name The Cupping Room. The coffee tasting went so well that the owners decided to change the name from The Coffee Connection to The Cupping Room Cafe. They also decided to open the back of the store and sell coffee and pie to the local artists.

The building hosting The Cupping Room is a landmark building. It was the first "tall" building in SoHo and is more than 100 years old. The high tin ceilings, hard wood floors, pot-belly stove and exposed brick walls are all part of the original setting.

The Cupping Room was a home for artists and locals. Today it is still a neighborhood place where you can see the locals and the famous come together in our homey environment.

Nice ambiance for brunch. Service was slow/forgetful and the food was below mediocre. Some of it looked as if it had been sitting in the back for 30 min before being served.

We met friends for breakfast here and we're not disappointed. A real New York feel to a deceptively big place. You enter via a small set of steps on one entrance and street level in the other side. The staff were friendly and the food size and quality was great. Well worth a visit.

Had a great brunch today. Poached eggs in a spicy red tomato sauce and an open burrito sandwich. Both were excellent. A little disappointed they ran out of 2 herbal teas I wanted but the coffees were excellent as was the ambiance. Service a little slow so don't be in a rush. Enjoy!

$30 for pasta and two ginger ales; quite expensive (but they were very good). Had to get up and go over to the waiter to ask for drink refills. The floors are old and bend when you walk on them, making them very uneven. We are tourists to NY and this place had good NY atmosphere. It was what we... More

All the way in the back the roof opens up to a back alley glass roof letting the natural light in. Out of the 4 top rates breakfast places we visited, The Cupping Room had the best Eggs Benedict. However they were the priciest of the all... The price is what kept us from coming back.

We stopped in here for a late lunch and to shelter from the winter cold. Lovely little cafe with attentive service and nice food. Could recommend the mulled cider - hit the spot for winter warming!
