A friend of mine, dating back 30 years, had always wanted to go to Joe Allens and being able to predict when I would be in New York several weeks ahead gave him the opportunity to book well in advance for dinner. I arrived early and this clearly inconvenienced the waiter who must have asked 4 or 5 times if... More

When reviewing a restaurant, I keep in mind the type of establishment I’m dining. In other words: Is it a fast food or take out? Is it family style or casual dining? Is it a fine dining experience. The rating has nothing to do with the price of the meal, or the setting, but rather the quality of the experience... More

After a matinee we went to Joe Allen for an early dinner. We were seated in the rear section of the bar. The floor was uneven and the table rocked throughout the dinner even though we asked the waiter to fix it. The waiter seemed like he was doing us a favor by taking our order. He had the personality... More

I went here on business with a client in June 2015, and as an amateur chef I was really impressed. I'm not trained from Johnson and Wales, but have been cooking my whole life as my mother had her own tv show back in the 50's with GE and I'm the only person I know who knew how to make... More

In New York recently. We never goto the big Apple without dining at Joe Allen's. Everything we've ever ordered has been delicious. Near the theatre district, so convenient for a late dinner. I give it a "summa cum laude."

Joe Allen's is an institution worth visiting several times a year. Fun atmosphere, lively, great service, nice menu - perfect for that theatre night - either before or after a performance.

only go to joe allen's after eight and ten when this really nice restaurant can concentrate on serving new yorkers a quality product and not rushing so tourists can make some curtain time. just like you can't expect good food on the staten island ferry during rush hour, you have to pick your time to visit joe allen's.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
