The best Italian restaurant in New York!

We went with friends who frequent this lovely restaurant. What an absolute treat it was. We ordered the family style meal which is a lot if food but so delicious. The location, service and food is to die for! You must eat here!

In the middle of Little Italy with an $11 great lunch. Best veal I have ever had which came with rigatoni, salad and a basket of fresh bread. Butch the Hat came to visit us and welcome us to the restaurant and the experience was just wonderful.

We were a party of eight on a perfect summer evening and we had the pleasure of sitting outside on the sidewalk at La Mela. Two in our party live in the city and frequent La Mela; they suggested we order family style. Happy we did, as we had the chance to taste so many delicious antipastos, pastas, meats and,... More

We traveled to Little Italy just for this place. The variety was really good. We made the mistake of getting a Caesar salad before our main course - wrong! The salad was huge and very good but after eating it, we had very little room for our main course. They were very attentive to us trying to get us off... More

The food and service were exceptional. Great ambiance. Huge portions. My adult sons and I had shrimp fettucini and stuffed mushrooms.

We read that this place had good food so we stopped in. Love how the restaraunt puts tables on sidewalk to eat. Cool pics on the walls of all the famous people that have been here. Very laid back and Butch the Hat even came out to chat with us. He's the real deal and extremely nice! Pasta was great... More

If you're looking for a quiet, intimate place for dinner, this isn't the place. La Mela is a wonderful, loud, fun place to have great Italian food with friends and family. If you go here, be sure to be hungry as the amount of food they will serve you is enough to feed a small army.

Staying in Little Italy

Neighborhood Profile
Little Italy
While Little Italy is one of the city's smallest neighbourhoods, its streets are packed with visitors from around the globe, especially on summer weekends when the streets are closed to traffic. Stroll up Mulberry Street, the heart of Little Italy, for a dense mix of Italian restaurants with sidewalk tables, cafes, and old-school food shops. Don’t be surprised when the hosts beckon you to pay them a visit. Stop in for a coffee and a cannoli, or grab a streetside table to take in the scenery over a hearty Italian meal.
