Great Little Italy Restaurant

We ate here on our last night in NYC. It came highly recommended by many locals. The ambience is ok (florescent lights), but the food was fantastic. The red sauce was so tasty. We had tomato and mozzarella salad, chicken parm, spaghetti w/ meatballs, and a side of sausage. Our waitstaff were... read more

Ended up here by chance. Quite basic surroundings and decor. Walls covered with photographs of people ( some famous) with the owner which made for interesting passing of the time. Food was fantastic and plentiful, house red excellent too. Staff helpful and efficient. Prices very fair, would go back again for genuine Italan food, highly recommended.

This restaurant was highly recommended to us by someone who had been a patron for 40 years. We were greeted at the door while looking over the menu outside. It was a busy evening but we were seated immediately. Staff was exceptionally attentive and were detailed about their menu. Food was delicious and plentiful. Our teenage boys can be finicky... More

The FAGOLI SOUP was awful. The beans were hard and had a foul odor. We politely sent it back, but the waiter became personally offended. He stated "This Is IMPOSSIBLE, this is our best dish on the menu!" Very Rude. Had much better experience elsewhere on Mulberry Street. Even the guy who holds the door and solicits business outside cursed... More

We were in NYC for a couple of days and met with an old friend who suggested La Mela, on Sunday at lunch time. Between three of us, we ate family-style - plates of food arriving on the table, where we all just dig in. The tomato with mozzarella was a good introduction, followed by some fantastic antipasti. By the... More

We were there a really cold evening, some - 12 centigrades. So it was a little cold in the room. But the food was amazing ! Is there possible to make a better ravioli with mushrooms ??? All the pictures of different celebrities makes one feel that you are part of a special place. So if you like Italian, do... More

There's no shortage of Italian restaurants on Mulberry Street in Little Italy in Manhattan. La Mela offers delicious food, served generously by a most accomodating staff. Our party thoroughly enjoyed the prix-fixe 4 course dinner, which featured at least 3 different selections per course. The price-- just $30. per person. Fantastic value for really great food.

Came here with friends that were in from out of town and they wanted to go to Little Italy for lunch. It is classic for the neighborhood, but nothing to write home about. They have ONE type of wine, but at least it is drinkable. You will not leave hungry!!

While staying in NY I generally tipped 15-20% of the whole bill (inc tax) for all the meals we had. I arrived at La Mela and sat down, the first thing that I was unhappy about was the fact that we asked for a glass of red wine and the server said they always leave the bottle on the table,... More

Staying in Little Italy

Neighborhood Profile
Little Italy
While Little Italy is one of the city's smallest neighbourhoods, its streets are packed with visitors from around the globe, especially on summer weekends when the streets are closed to traffic. Stroll up Mulberry Street, the heart of Little Italy, for a dense mix of Italian restaurants with sidewalk tables, cafes, and old-school food shops. Don’t be surprised when the hosts beckon you to pay them a visit. Stop in for a coffee and a cannoli, or grab a streetside table to take in the scenery over a hearty Italian meal.
