Really authentic

We were there a really cold evening, some - 12 centigrades. So it was a little cold in the room. But the food was amazing ! Is there possible to make a better ravioli with mushrooms ??? All the pictures of different celebrities makes one feel that you are part of a special place. So if you like... read more

There's no shortage of Italian restaurants on Mulberry Street in Little Italy in Manhattan. La Mela offers delicious food, served generously by a most accomodating staff. Our party thoroughly enjoyed the prix-fixe 4 course dinner, which featured at least 3 different selections per course. The price-- just $30. per person. Fantastic value for really great food.

Came here with friends that were in from out of town and they wanted to go to Little Italy for lunch. It is classic for the neighborhood, but nothing to write home about. They have ONE type of wine, but at least it is drinkable. You will not leave hungry!!

While staying in NY I generally tipped 15-20% of the whole bill (inc tax) for all the meals we had. I arrived at La Mela and sat down, the first thing that I was unhappy about was the fact that we asked for a glass of red wine and the server said they always leave the bottle on the table,... More

I was first introduced to this be a friend who said if going to Little Italy on holiday, you must go to.....Well, I did and now I DO. I live in Chicago, but when I'm in NYC, I always make a point to go there. I go for the Family Style and of course wine option, and that's ordering. Yeah,... More

Okay, it's not my favorite because it's fancy. It's the food and the fun atmosphere. This is a family style restaurant so don't even ask for a menu- that's how you can tell the noobs. Just say, "family style with wine please". That's it! Where: on the corner of Mulberry and Grand in Little Italy. Pro Tips: 1) Order family... More

I visited two times, and both times I can say the Carbonera pasta is the best ever. Not sure what Mela restaurant is this page for, because there's like 2 locals next to each other. But my review is for the Mela that's next to AMICI II. Small place, but very lighted and good service.

I have been here twice in the last few weeks. Once with a large group. We had he shared platters, plenty of food, could hardly finish half of it. Second time a la carte, once again fantastic. Great Tortellini. It's authentic, nothing fancy; great, simple food, unique atmosphere, recommend this and will certainly come back.

Ate here in Nov. 2914, came back w my family and in-laws in Dec. excellent food, hefty portions at reasonable prices. Makes you feel like you stepped into a time zone in the era of Sinatra and Dean Martin. Loved the authentic decor, serenaders, and Butch the Hat! Will definitely be back on our next trip!

Neighborhood Profile
Little Italy
While Little Italy is one of the city's smallest neighbourhoods, its streets are packed with visitors from around the globe, especially on summer weekends when the streets are closed to traffic. Stroll up Mulberry Street, the heart of Little Italy, for a dense mix of Italian restaurants with sidewalk tables, cafes, and old-school food shops. Don’t be surprised when the hosts beckon you to pay them a visit. Stop in for a coffee and a cannoli, or grab a streetside table to take in the scenery over a hearty Italian meal.
