Great neighborhood place

We had dinner at Le Monde before a concert at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine. Luckily we had made a reservation because Le Monde attracts the locals in droves. And rightfully so, as the meal and service were lovely. Had the luck to chat with the chef who just happened to be at... read more

It is , of course, aiming at the students crowd, and I go there just to get away for luncheon. The food is basic, the service can easily be overwhelmed (I once had to way 45 minutes for a burger). A new leadership to give it a French touch is badly needed.

We were here with friends for a late night dinner. We did not have a reservation and were seated right away. I just wanted a light dinner and had the arugula salad wih shrimp. It was delicious . Service was just right too.

As a Columbia guy, I find myself up on campus a few times/year and seem to wind up here for lunch or dinner with a faculty person. It's fine. .

All their food are great but if you can't decide what to get, go for their pre-fixed menu! They also have excellent wine selections and delicious desserts that would satisfy the obnoxious customer!

From the sidewalk tables to the French artifacts, they have the French bistro thing down. The menu has the usual classics, and are pretty well done -- steak frites with a side of bernaise was done right; goat cheese and potato tart hit the spot. In addition to wines, they have beer menu focusing on Belgian beers. Very inviting, convivial.... More

Went to Le Monde around 10pm Labor Day weekend - plenty of room, inside or outside. Staff exceedingly nice; Ken our waiter was a total pro. They have 4 or 5 beers on tap, some of which I was not familiar with - ordered a Pietra (a Corsican chestnut beer)...very mild. The mussels mariniere were very good - between 1-1/2-2... More

I am writing this review to let visitors to New York know that you do not need to go to Midtown, or the Upper East Side, to find authentic French cuisine. In what is mostly a university neighborhood - Columbia University Campus entrance is on 116th St. - with local eateries catering to students' taste for fast food, Asian, Mexican... More

This is a great neighborhood place when you are in the Columbia area and you want that bistro wine and steak frites. Nothing really special in the food area, but reliable. Just easy bistro food with a comfortable old-time-euro atmosphere. Cozy bar, tables, and sidewalk too. A misture of profs & 50s crowd. My choice when I have to meet... More

Le Monde is a reasonably priced, casual French restaurant in MoHi with good food. The food isn't the best French I've ever had, nor is the service spectacular, but in the University neighborhood it is a reliable and delicious place to have around.
