Looking for an authentic Italian American Experience

I'm visiting NY with my husband and 16 year old son. We've had burger and pizza and wanted something more relaxed Italian American and Porto-bello fitted the bill. Good service good food at reasonable prices..!

We had dinner here, salmon in garlic sauce was really nice. Good prices. They fixed Fettachini Alfredo for the 12 yr old. Not really Italian food! They have been here forever. Love to support local businesses, enjoy what the locals know. Nice service too.

The location, especially on a warm Spring night, is excellent. A small street with nicely lined trees, the restaurant literally on the sidewalk with good strong lights over the tables. It is just too bad that they have not made a small additional effort to make the food as pleasant as the surroundings. That does not mean that the food... More

Turn off busy Bleecker Street into Thompson St to find this quiet, nicely run authentic Italian restaurant. Friendly service, fairly fast. Food not haute cuisine, but well-prepared, genuine Italian fare - and reasonably priced. We were very happy customers and would recommend it. It sure beats the noisy pub-style eateries on Bleecker. Try to get a table on the street... More

went here after seeing a show at NYU. Quaint northern Italian restaurant with really nice ambience. Friendly staff.. All men... And were attentive to our needs. The food was good... But did not wow us. Prices were moderate. Probably would not return here for another meal.

This New York classic has been in the Village for over 30 years. Yet this was our first visit! Located very close to NYU's Skirball Center where we were attending a Sunday matinee. We ordered fettucini with meatballs and eggplant parmesan accompanied by a half bottle of the house chianti riserva. Outstanding food, service and reasonable prices.

Porto Bello is a charming little restaurant that serves good authentic Italian cuisine. We started our meal, with some delicious grilled calamari, cooked perfectly. Oh a tip, be sure to ask for their balsamic and oil to dip bread in. Oh so so good. For entrees we had two eggplant parmigiano, one gnocchi pesto and one pene. The eggplant was... More

Service was fantastic. Excellent wine - we ate outside on a beautiful fall night !! I had delish penne ala vodka. We had the clams oreganata as an appetizer. Portions are a little small - but delicious. We will definitely come back !!!

Nice place, wine was good, food very weak : the owner suggested wonders, and presented a pale sauce with some savourless penne floating

Small place. Cozy. Views outside to a busy street but quiet and intimate inside. Staff wonderful and helpful. Price good. Food Outstanding! I couldn't decide what to get because every single thing on the menu sounded amazing. I finally settled on the Homemade Meat Ravioli with mushroom garlic butter cream sauce. I don't know if I could have been happier!... More
