The real thing

We've been coming to Sammy's for a few years (we're from London) and it is consistently good. Time they gave it a paint job to be honest, but the quality and portions of the excellent food overcomes all niggles. Staff are generally charming and helpful and the prices more than fair. It's a real old... read more

For Years we have eaten at Sammy's noodle house and greatly enjoyed them both in delivery AND dining in. They are a village institution and their food used to be really good. Lately, our last two delivery orders have been oily and old and our last dining in order came out incorrect and poorly cooked. Chicken that looked like pork.....Bad... More

first of all the food here is very good. Let me say that first. Note to owners..close the place down for a weekend and fix up the bathrooms and other sections. I am at the point in my life now that when I go to an old bathroom in a restaurant I can only imagine what the kitchen is like?... More

Terrific food, as always, especially, if one prefers, as do I, large bowls of a variety of Chinese style dishes mixed with a variety noodles, wontons, etc. They, of course, have a traditional Chinese menu which one would find in most any other Chinese restaurant, only, in most cases this is better. It is a bit more expensive than some... More

I have lived n New York City for 60 years and have eaten at hundreds of Chinese restaurants. This place really bad. Ordered Shrimp Dumplings, chicken with broccoli, sizzling shrimp and Spicy beef. One dish was worse then the next. Waitress was worse than the food. Every thing was gooey and dumplings were ice cold in the center. We just... More

While strolling down 6th Avenue we came across Sammy’s. It doesn’t look like much from the outside but it was packed inside. You walk in to the delivery and payment area and a lady who is sat behind a desk takes you to a table. Now this is not the most Chic place but if you want really good Chinese... More

I've been to Sammy several times throughout the years. They could use a little remodeling, but that's the only change I would make. It is the typical takeout style restaurant but the food is well worth it. It is consistent, fresh and worth going. The sesame noodles are thick and saucy, yum . If it wasn't two hours away I... I haven't eaten at Sammy's since my exhibition opening in 2008. It was Halloween day so we went down before the West Village Parade. I had the Egg Noodles with Vegetables and my companion had the Orange Chicken. We also shared an order of Steamed Juicy Buns. I'm not a pork eater, but make an exception for their Juicy Buns.... My friend and I stopped in Saturday afternoon. We shared an appetizer and main dish. The vegetable dumplings were just OK and the only good thing about The Double Sauteed Pork was the mushrooms which were delicious. A door near where were seated was open and when we told the waitress we were cold she said other patrons were hot... More

I always eat here when in the city. Have been going here for about 20 years. Always delicious, fresh tasty. Portions are a good size. Friendly, fast service. Clean place to eat. Nice location and good area to stroll after eating. Highly recommend.

Staying in West Village

Neighborhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
