Good food, fun friendly crowd

Realiably tasty dishes in a warm atmosphere. I love the fish tacos. My partner the burgers. Nice to have a neighborhood meeting place in the west village.

Disappointed in the food at the Tavern on Jane. The restaurant was crowded, as it was one of the few restaurants open on the night of the recent snow storm, so I should cut it some slack. Still, the food was only so-so.

This Tavern is my place to go for a drink and meal. I do this every time in December for about 12 years now. The last 2 years things are getting different, the locals are going away and the menu has been changed. The owner is seeking new possibilities and has done some changes in the menu but also the... If you're looking for a really good place to eat near the Whitney or just south of Meatpacking, then this place is it. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The brick walls, tin ceiling, authentic bar and cozy tables all add to atmosphere. Colorful artwork adorns the walls and the chair are comfortable (and the tables are not on... More

Stumbled in for lunch when the restaurant we were looking for was closed for refurbishment. Thank the food fairies, Tavern on Jane produced a wonderful meal with exceptional service. Nice wines and good beer on tap.

We hadn't been to Tavern on Jane for a while and wanted to have dinner and catch up. The bar scene was so loud it was impossible to hear each other. The hostess wore a strong perfume that made me cough. She didn't want to seat two of us, said the tables were all for four (there were no parties... More

I met friends here for dinner late on a Saturday night when the Mets playoff game was in progress and the bar was LOUD and crowded. We were thrilled to find a back room with table seating that was quiet and you could easily talk to your friends because it was around the corner from the baseball crowd. Service was... More

And she was; I wish that I had asked her name, but she was the petite one on duty late last night around 10 pm - Midnight. She was just such a pro and yet so friendly and seemed really vested in our time and food. If anyone for the restaurant is reading this, she deserves a raise!

Staying in West Village

Neighborhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
