Friendly local place

Great place with good service. We both had a very delicious tomato basil soup. Wine, cava and beer. Fun idea for young and old that you were able to colour the tablecloth.

Two burgers and two beers (about $55 total) here were perfect in the pleasant old atmosphere of the pub. We could have split the huge hamburger and been satisfied, and the busy but nice server offered to substitute a salad for the fries, which was a nice touch. Fair selection of draught beer.

I used to love this place when I lived in NYC and while it is still good it doesn't quite have the magic of days gone by. The food is good, the beers plentiful and the staff friendly but it felt as if it had lost its sparkle a bit and was less cosy and welcoming than it used to... More

Visited early evening on 14th January after having been down to the WTC for the afternoon (E subway 14th Street and walk down to Jane Street). Great local place with a real buzz. Eat in the bar area or in the back where there are a few tables. Had fried, shredded brussel sprouts with apple and bacon to start (really... More

The service of most restaurants fall into two categories. In some, the server hovers over tables like a buzzard, asking time ad nauseam if everything is alright and refilling water glasses every time a sip is taken. In others, you practically have to turn cartwheels or steal the silverware to get anybody's attention. Tavern on Jane is neither. I was... More

I had brunch here over the weekend with a group of people. The waitstaff was terrific, and as we grew from 6 people to 10 they helped connect another table. We all ordered something different and everyone enjoyed their meal. There is an a la carte menu as well as a prix fixe brunch. I had the shrimp and grits... More

I have been going to this restaurant / bar for many years as my closest friend lives across the street. It is consistently quite good. I just met this friends and another one whom we have all know each other for over 40 years. The second friend comes in from NJ and this is our usual dinner spot almost once... More

Delicious brunch at a very reasonable price located in the West Village, NYC. Old fashioned, sparkling clean pub. Waitress was terrific. Nice atmosphere, (not noisy), able to have conversation, food and drinks. Look forward to returning.

Considering the location it was not too expensive and provided a really good menu. The beer and wine was fine too and the service was actually worth the tip unlike quite a few other places we visited. Worth a visit.

I had a nice drink at a reasonable price (for NYC) at an hour when most establishments were closed. It hit the spot!

Staying in West Village

Neighborhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
