We have walked the village many times and I am sure we have passed by the restaurant but never stopped in. We went after a matinee for dinner at 6.30. I was looking for a nice restaurant in the West Village, and decided to come here given the reviews that I saw. The Place not only lived up to what I had read, but exceeded our group's expectations. We had reservations at 10:00 p.m., but I called them since we were running late, and they told us we just had... More

My wife and I enjoyed a romantic dinner in this friendly West Village eatery. At the entrance is a lovely little bar with an open fire place. Service and food (especially the dessert) were outstanding. Highly recommended for a romatic dinner!

The Place is very cozy and a perfect place for a special dinner. The service is very good as is the selection of wines. The food is “seasonal” so the menu changes so expect fresh ingredients. The food is good, some dishes better than others, ask your server for their recommendation, we did and we weren’t disappointed. Bon appétit!

We enjoyed the setting - it is clearly a local joint with lots of returnees. Our waiter was really nice. That said, the food was good but wasn't overly creative and the guy who sat us was clearly in a cranky mood - wasn't friendly to us - and despite a reservation, it was like we were putting him out... The Place was recommended. We were spending a Saturday evening in NYC for anniversary. We made reservation (definitely a must). Menu was limited but variety was good. Salad was excellent (can't remember which one - with pears and walnuts?). Had scallops for dinner, probably one of the best items. Wait staff was wonderful, was able to get a drink. Seating... More

We got a bit lost trying to find the Place so we were late for our booking and our table was given away. The hostess was seriously nice about the whole thing and had a table for us after 5-10 minutes wait. We sat at the bar, which I loved and could happily sit there as the ambiance is nice... More

I am very surprised to read the good reviews about this place on this website. Maybe the cook had an off day on the day I ate at this place. As a European visitor I know that comparing European cuisine standards to American is comparing apples and pears, but even though I had lowered the bar, in my eyes this... More

This was anniversary dinner and was outstanding. Very intimate and the steak entree and veal meatballs were excellent! Very nice wine by the glass. Service attentive and quick. Bread pudding was the perfect finish. Thank you!

Came here for our anniversary Dinner. The food was really good. The menu is seasonal. We had sweet potato raviolis, roasted chicken dinner, the shrimp fettuccine and the gingerbread ice cream sandwich and pumpkin bread pudding. Everything was great. The cocktails were really good too. Definitely would come back.

Staying in West Village

Neighborhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
