Authentic food, fun little place

I am of German-Russian descent and know my kraut, red cabbage, potato salad, and brats well, and this place did not disappoint. Three of us decided to enjoy Easter lunch here instead of at an overpriced, prix-fixe brunch elsewhere. Great decision! We ordered the Sausage Platter for Three, and it... read more

I am German and I can tell you that the food is legit at Heidelberg! Everything they served us tasted so good and I felt like I went back home! I hope everyone else enjoys it just like I did.

Went there for a dinner on Saturday night with my husband and didn't even need a reservation! Casual atmosphere, great service and delicious food! The sauerbraten was very good as was the garten salad and schweinbraten and wine I ordered. We are definitely planning on going back.

If you like sitting in a NYC 1930's atmosphere then you will love the Heidelberg. If you enjoy a german cruisine cooked and served to perfection you will like Heidelberg even more. Last, if you enjoy real German beer; light or dark, you will enjoy this old style NYC German Pub. Best German food I have found in New York.

Stopped by here after dropping off a friend. Since most of the other bars had entertainment and was pretty loud, this is a good alternative to sit and talk with friends. German dunkel worked for me, especially since it was a cold night. The potato pancake here was really, really good and the currywurst was tasty. I would say this... More

A block away from where I live, Heidelberg is a neighborhood favorite. The food is very good, service is pleasant, portions are substantial, and the restaurant itself feels very authentically European. The sauerbraten and chicken jäger schnitzel are my favorites, and my husband is a huge fan of their bratwurst and spatzle. The potato pancakes are insane - by far... More

I have been here many times and the latest was this afternoon for weekend brunch. The new Brunch Menu does not please me and apparently many others so I ordered from the regular one. They make the absolutely best Spaetzle in New York and their Potato Pancakes are not too bad. I had the beef stew which was wonderful and... More

We walked past this place during lunch on a Saturday and decided to just pop in for a bite and we left STUFFED!!! Best goulasche I've ever had! Great beers on tap, very friendly wait staff, and family owned. Loved it. We will be back, and next time with friends! Please try and visit this place, as I think they... More

Went here with friends late--after the movies. We'd all been here many years ago and were happy to be back. This is an old stand-by place that feels like a restaurant of decades ago. The food was hearty and the portions quite large. Two normal eating people could really share a dish. Nice selection of beer. I had a Bauenworst... More

My advice is to come early if you come on a weekend - we got there between 5:00 and 5:30 and it started to fill up shortly afterward. You are able to make reservations during the week, just not on the weekend. I had very delicious sauerbraten with mashed potatoes and red cabbage, my daughter had spinach strudel - both... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
