Authentic and consistently good

A block away from where I live, Heidelberg is a neighborhood favorite. The food is very good, service is pleasant, portions are substantial, and the restaurant itself feels very authentically European. Stopped by here after dropping off a friend. Since most of the other bars had entertainment and was pretty loud, this is a good alternative to sit and talk with friends. German dunkel worked for me, especially since it was a cold night. The potato pancake here was really, really good and the currywurst was tasty. I would say this... More

I have been here many times and the latest was this afternoon for weekend brunch. The new Brunch Menu does not please me and apparently many others so I ordered from the regular one. They make the absolutely best Spaetzle in New York and their Potato Pancakes are not too bad. I had the beef stew which was wonderful and... More

We walked past this place during lunch on a Saturday and decided to just pop in for a bite and we left STUFFED!!! Best goulasche I've ever had! Great beers on tap, very friendly wait staff, and family owned. Loved it. We will be back, and next time with friends! Please try and visit this place, as I think they... More

Went here with friends late--after the movies. We'd all been here many years ago and were happy to be back. This is an old stand-by place that feels like a restaurant of decades ago. The food was hearty and the portions quite large. Two normal eating people could really share a dish. Nice selection of beer. I had a Bauenworst... More

My advice is to come early if you come on a weekend - we got there between 5:00 and 5:30 and it started to fill up shortly afterward. You are able to make reservations during the week, just not on the weekend. I had very delicious sauerbraten with mashed potatoes and red cabbage, my daughter had spinach strudel - both... More

We go to NYC every year to see the lights. We make our annual trip to the Heidelberg Restaurant . This year didn't disappoint. We were there early and it didn't appear there was a server though. We had two appetizers and three meals and they were all excellent . The waitstaff is very nice also. We really enjoy the... More

Lovely Roast Goose, which was a tradion in my family growing up, and it was nice to renew those gourmet memories at Heidelberg. And the potato pancakes were incredible, like my mother used to make. Will definitely go again next Christmas

This place delivered what I've been looking for, great German food. We had the Jäger schnitzel and Schweineshaxe. The Schweineshaxe (roasted pork shank) had a crispy skin that was wonderful with a deep flavor. What put the Jäger schnitzel over the top was the spaetzel with mushroom, cream, and wine gravy. Yum

German décor and staff dressed in traditional costume - this was a fun experience. The food was good and the portions quite generous. They have a nice selection of German beers and wines. You can even get your beer in a 2 liter glass (boot)! Great for a special occasion where you want to try something different.

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
