matinee lunch

We had a very nice lunch at Cara Mia before a matinee show. It is in easy walking distance to most of the theaters. They have a fixed price lunch as well as dinner. Prices are reasonable and food is good. Leave yourself plenty of time because service is very slow. This did not bother us since... read more

We waited for a long time to be seated, despite our reservation. First we waited in the cold, then we were admitted to the tarp tent, then a table wedged into the brick wall. Fine. We were ignored for way too long, finally corralled a waiter to order two glasses of wine. After another long wait, the mini mini carafes... More

My wife and I visited after a theater matinee on a Saturday and though they were very busy at 5:30PM we were seated in under 10 minutes. How was this possible you ask? Unfortunately Casa Mia is the model of space efficiency as they cram as many tables as they can into the tiny space that is their restaurant. If... More

After reading some positive reviews, I selected this restaurant for a pre-theater dinner. The experience was disappointing. The food was mediocre and I probably could have lived with that, if it wasn't for the rushed, bordering on rude, service. Our entrees arrived before we finished our appetizers. And the waiter brought us our check without even asking if we wanted... More

The two of us had pasta carbonara which was lovely. Ordered a pudding which was stale and left an awful taste in the mouth. Service was good. However when the bill came it showed us our food came to 53 dollars which was fine and tax added was 5 dollars, again fine. The sting was they added 16% gratuity and... More

My wife and I always go to Cara Mia when we go to NYC since we have been going there for close to 15 years!!! This visit was mixed and here is why. FOOD - Excellent SERVICE (wait staff) - Excellent the rest I will describe. AMBIANCE - HORRIBLE that evening - why because they had a table of 12... More

My fresh home made squid ink pasta with seafood was one of the best versions of this dish i ever had. The pasta was excellent, the clams, mussels, shrimp, calmari and half lobster were perfectly cooked, and the spicy tomato sauce was really delicious. I ate with my wife and three daughters, my meal was the clear winner. Everyone loved... More

The food was to die for good. It came out hot & delicious. The waiters & managers were helpful. It is within waling distance of most theaters But beware - this is a very popular restaurant & for a good reason - make a reservation on the early side & BE ON TIME. We were late & afraid we wouldn't... More

This place got mixed reviews on Tripadvisor and I was skeptical about going but my friends made reservations and were pretty insistent that we try it out. The place is tiny and they use every square inch of the restaurant to cram in as many patrons as possible. If you weigh more than 200 lbs. good luck trying to fit... More

A New York friend recommended this restaurant for dinner and we know why. With reservations at 7:45 we still had to wait a little. The restaurant is extremely small with tables close together. The bread and olive oil served as an appetizer is delicious. The dishes we ordered were amazing, served piping hot, and the fresh pasta was a hit!... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
