A good neighborhood choice, but use caution when reading the wine list

Josie's has a terrific vegetarian cheeseburger. My experience suggests that you would do well to skip the cheese. It will still be a good veggie option. We stopped by for lunch and were really hungry, the soup was over sweet, the tofu has been warmed up in microwave and became like sponge, the "roasted veggies" appeared to be boiled. The owner started to argue but eventually took one dish from check. The server was ok. Very disappointing start for our 4 days in NYC.

Had a pre show dinner here last night and then took the #1 train to our show. Beet salad was delicious but too small to really share. I had the chicken fajita which was very filling. Would have liked a side of sour cream which was not available. What's a fajita if not with sour cream! My date enjoyed the... More

This was our third annual trip to NY, each time staying at Hotel Beacon. Josie's is on the opposite corner of the same block, so it has been our super-convenient go-to restaurant the first night of our trip, after sitting for over an hour in the line to get through Lincoln Tunnel from Newark Airport. The food has always been... More

I started with a creamy squash soup which was very good and much larger than expected. I really could have had that for my meal. The edamame and the dumplings were also good. My BF enjoyed the meatless meatloaf which was a unique option.

Had an hour to dine just before a show at the Beacon Theatre.. Place was very busy, but the waitress was quick to serve us in a most delightful way. Offering suggestions, we quickly ordered glasses of cabernet (excellent), one of the fish specials, (a white flaky fish encrusted with a nut of some kind and pan seared to perfection)... More

What an interesting place! Very nice shrimp and veggies over brown rice. But what really wowed me was my husband's steak. Tender. Oooooh. And perfectly seasoned. Love the philosophy of this restaurant and the nice staff. Don't let the 50's decor fool you. There is nothing plastic about the genuine good food here.

Casual, but nice atmosphere. Friendly, attentive service. I arrived a few minutes earlier than my friend, but they seated me anyway, which I appreciated. The menu has a wide variety of "American food" options, with lots of vegetarian and vegan choices too. I had the prix fixe menu for about $32--a real bargain! I started with Grandma's free-range chicken soup... More

We originally had reservations that we had to cancel as we couldn't get there in time but we showed up an hour later without reservations and there was table available for us. We were attending a concert at Beacon Theatre around the corner so time was limited but the food arrived timely and piping hot. Turkey burger was excellent, Angel... More

Josie's is a popular place with locals on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Tourists who frequent Lincoln Center also make the effort to walk uptown the handful of streets to indulge. The service is very cordial and welcoming. The food is varied and home-cooked. The prices are reasonable. Highly recommend!
