Holy Basil has great Thai food. They are located in the East Village, about a 4 block walk from the subway. The neighborhood reminded us of Haight-Ashbury during its hayday. It's dark in here, perfect for a romantic night out. I had the Kang Ped and it tasted very good, but the main reason I want to go back here is the Gai Mamong my husband chose. So delicious!! more

We went to Holy Basil on a recommendation of a friend who lives in the nabe. I wasn't expecting much going up the stairs, and upon entering, felt as if I was entering a church. After my second visit, I have to admit that Holy Basil is not as good as its reputation might suggest. The restaurant is very pretty and the service is friendly. However, the food was only so-so. I had a crispy duck dish my first time, which was just too chewy. My beef noodle dish more recently was swimming in grease.... more
