We stayed at the Excelsior Hotel, so this bar was handy for an evening cocktail and snack. Several types of Sangria are offered along with mostly unfamiliar items on the food menu. You have to be a little adventurous. My friend became instantly addicted to the puffy little plaintain rolls while my taste of the shrimp tacos told me that... More

Our first port of call when in the hotel was the bar - welcoming friendly bar staff, good variety of drinks and reasonable prices. Pom Collins is the cocktail of choice! (Diablo was rather handy too). Plenty of sangria if you really want to get stuck in - 8 varieties. We loved the restaurant - again, staff were 10/10. Food... More

Calle Ocho is a very good mexican restaurant with cuisine that is quite different form the usual mexican fare. Excellent food but a limited wine list.

After a long day of travel, the convenience of the restaurant being attached to the hotel was great. The interior was well appointed and the waitress was really great and attentive even though she had a number of tables. I started with the Arepa as an appetizer and it was very tasty and very filling. The main course was the... More

I'm a New York City tour guide. I work in Times Square and live on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Calle Ocho is located on W 81st St between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue on the ground floor of the Excelsior Hotel just across the street from the American Museum of Natural History. The flavor and accents are... More

We met our NY millenial niece and nephew here for Sunday brunch. Reservations definitely needed! It was buzzing with all types of interesting people from many nations and cultures. We were seated promptly and introduced to the variety of sangrillas...a specialty. After sampling several, the red Santa Fe with cinnamon tones was the favorite. I had the poached egg over... More

Although Calle Ocho receives numerous top reviews, I was still pleasantly surprised with the great brunch my group had. We entertained our young family from out of town and they had a memorable experience. The food, drinks, ambiance and service were all outstanding and the prices were more than reasonable for such a "hot spot". I've enjoyed wonderful dinners there,... More

Recommended by Boston coworker who eats in NY a lot for my 1st trip to NYC. In too long, want to return to Calle Ocho and great server 0rlando NOW! Delightful from beginning ceviche (have not had since on the beach in the Caribbean (and the ginger lime mixto was so much finer, could have been happy with just that... More

Celebrating my sister's birthday here today. We arrived early and had drinks at the bar while awaiting the rest of our party of 16. It's the perfect spot to wait. Comfortable banquettes and bar stools and a very well appointed bar. Great drinks selection. i had a Dark and Stormy. Mulas, Skinny Margaritas and exceptional Mojitos--Passion Fruit, Mango among others--were... More

The food was pretty good and the Spanish vibe was pretty good too. Portions are large. Brunch is a bit wild...Probably the free Sangria!
