Heaven is Ricotta Gnocchi at USC

I had been here once before and had the ricotta gnocchi. So I was praying it would be on the menu. It was. I had a great Oregon rose by the glass and a cheese assortment for dessert. The gnocchi was as heavenly! Light as a feather....the fresh tomato sauce it is served with is perfect. I also... read more

I love Union Square Cafe. They really understand farm-to-table and execute it brilliantly. Nothing is overly fancy. Just delicious, real food with a creative flair. Being from the South with a rich history of farm-to-table cooking, I love how Union Square has incorporated some of our best products like Anson Mills into their summer menu. Great food and wonderful servers... More

A close friend of mine is a Danny Meyer fan and he recommended I visit Union Sq Cafe before it moved location at the end of this year. I'm so happy I did! I had the Beef Carpaccio and my sister had Scallop Crudo for starters. The carpaccio just melted in your mouth - I normally don't order this dish... More

My son and I enjoyed a delightful evening. My crudo and pasta dish were both very tasty. The wines by the glass were very nice. Our server (I unfortunately am not remembering his name) was really very efficient and PLEASANT. I am looking forward to visiting Union Square Cafe in its new home !!!!

"An Epic Birthday" are the words John used to describe his birthday on Wednesday. Union Square Cafe played a leading role. Gracious service do the finest detail. A couple of days prior to our reservation, John's favorite buddy and his wife were freed-up to join us. The reservations person not only accommodated us, but wanted John's name, so they could... We visited Union Square Cafe in a party of 11 for an anniversary celebration. The food was adequate but lacking in the aplomb and creativity that USC was known for. As a meal it would have been quite acceptable for your neighborhood pub at half the price, but that's not what we've been used to from USC. Where were the... More

We visited this place on a Sunday morning for Brunch and were very pleased. The fascatelli dish was very satisfying and everything you want out of a comforting pasta dish. The Montlouis sparkling wine is a tremendous buy. The service was excellent. Highly recommended.

I've been to this restaurant several times over the years and I've always been impressed by the service and the variety on the menu. I ordered the seafood pasta which was nice but the seafood was scant. My partner ordered the steak which was cooked to perfection. For desert I ordered the salted chocolate cake which was ok. I'm looking... More

After many years of visiting NYC, we finally made it to the Union Square Cafe. We arrived for dinner the first night in town and were not disappointed and followed it up with lunch two days later. The food and service is as fantastic as we had always heard. You must visit this wonderful NYC establishment before it closes in... More

After reading "Setting the Table" by Danny Meyer, I wanted to visit during a recent trip to NYC. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I did not feel the "enlightened hospitality" as described in his book. Our waiter just placed our menus on the table and left. He did not introduce himself or go over the menu. We ordered... More

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighborhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of the city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets - much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighborhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being home to a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
