We had an excellent experience. Great quality food. Spanish octopus was better than in Spain. And Spanish mackerel was absolutely different (little fatty) but my fav. Wine list was reasonable. Young crowd. Not a stuffy ambience at all. Service was a little not attentive. But it was very busy but still I expect the waiter etc to move the table... More

Rock-solid in its food and service, secure in its place in the restaurant world, few places are as pleasing and comfortable as the Union Square Café. It is middle-of-the-road in the best sense. Prices are neither inexpensive nor stratospheric and the food is innovative and excellent without trying to be trendy. On a recent visit I had a charred beef... More

I do not know why it has been a while since we have eaten at Union Square Café. The food was uniformly excellent. The manager was delightful and charming, reflecting confident knowledge of the true meaning of "host." Our server, truly exemplified focus on employees. We all agreed that we never have experienced restaurant service that exceeded what we received... More

If you are going to eat in New York, make a reservation and eat here! You will be more than satisfied, the kitchen is divine and the ambience is wonderful. You are lucky if your waitress is Caroline but if you have some of the others don't worry, it is a wonderteam doing all for you to have a wonderful... More

It's not super expensive, or super cheap, but has value in the sense that the food quality is worth it. Not flashy but solid. The interesting thing that I noticed is the wait staff is very young and somewhat inexperienced, which made the service spotty and lacking in menu knowledge. But the food was good, so it all balanced out.

This was a rainy Saturday in NYC. We had not been at the Union Sqare Cafe in 20 years. What a shame we missed this great restaurant for so long ! A bit crowded maybe but the tables are nicely spread and the noise level perfect by New York standards. Service is attentive, efficient and friendly. We had a beef... More

Had late dinner reservations, 9:30, after a dance performance. Had to cancel due to the schedule running later than expected. Went at 10 pm with a party of 6 and were able to be seated promptly. Service was prompt and efficient. Salads were great as we're the dishes of pasta and polenta. Steak was tasty as was the cockle stew.... More

Another couple, my wife and I were in NYC for a short stay and were given a recommendation by a mutual friend for Union Square Cafe. My wife needs to eat gluten-free so we are always wary of "new" restaurants. We found this restaurant to be very knowledgeable about gluten concerns and in fact had just that day started serving... Pros + Value - good price for the value and for NYC. That's not to say it is inexpensive. + Food - everything is fresh and tasty. Food lacks the flare of inventiveness, but makes up in being delicious anyway. I'll take "good" over "cool", any day. + Wine list looked decent enough. They don't have a zillion wines, but... More

Food average but made up for by overall ambiance and conviviality. Staff were very accommodating for special birthday requests. Overall enjoyable experience.
