Jazz Room Dinner

Went w/ friends during restaurant week and chose to eat in the jazz room downstairs. It is much smaller and intimate than the larger dinning room & bar upstairs. The music was a bluesy jazz mix, the fish well prepared and the wine special was quite good. If you like music and fish, this is the... read more

Although highly rated, I was able to secure a table on short notice. As soon as we walked in, it was obvious why. The place was incredibly loud! Impressive space but charmless and crowded, with mostly marble surfaces and up-tempo music playing. Almost impossible to talk over the din. Nice waitstaff, great green salad but poorly prepared, tasteless lobster.

Service? I can't say enough about how great it was. Very fast, very professional, we couldn't have asked for anything better. And the food? In one word, fantastic! I had the blackened swordfish...to die for.

Good food, lovely wines, great service, lovely atmosphere. First time having brunch & it was very nice, as usual - not cheap, but not a rip-off, either. Good place for a slightly upscale meal that's not stuffy of intimidating. Note: If you plan to bring a parent (or anyone of any age, I guess...) with mobility issues, not at all... More

From the host/hostess, to the waiter everyone is very friendly and helpful. The food is consistent and I am never disappointed.

After being turned away from Tocqueville, our friends and my husband and I walked around the corner to the Blue Water Grill and were served a wonderful seafood dinner. I had trout as did others and one friend had the salmon. Everything was cooked beautifully. Our waiter was pleasant - especially considering the late hour. He patiently described each dish... More

This is an expensive NYC restaurant - no higher than most but pricey nonetheless. If you know that going in the prices should not surprise. The menu was extremely limited which did surprise me. If you don't like sushi you may have a problem. Even the seafood selection is limited. The food was good but not stellar. This was a... More

Went for Sunday brunch. Maybe they were training a new waitres. We put in our order, and when the food was delivered, one of the orders was incorrect. We sent it back. Eventually, the replacement came back, but now, the hungry person had no silverware. A manager type person said he'd get it, and went off. And didn't come back.... More

A colleague and I went to Blue Water Grill for lunch recently, after a meeting in Queens. I made the reservation on the drive over. I've been going to this restaurant since I first moved to NYC and lived in Union Square although I moved to Brooklyn years ago. I've had many lunches and dinners here with family, friends and... Had Valentine's Day dinner with another couple here. It was our first time dining at Blue Water Grill, but we had heard only great things about it. And by gosh, they were all true. The service was excellent. It was fast, but not rushed. Our server was friendly, polite, not pushy and offered great recommendations. And the food, oh the... More

Neighborhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of the city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets - much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighborhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being home to a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
