Good food and jazz experience

If you like bluesy jazz but want good food this may be the place for you. It's not fine cuisine but its darned good! Great ambience and cool jazz club vibe if a little overrun by tourists.

We had been recommended the Blue Water Grill and we're looking forward to it but were disappointed. The food was good and you couldn't complain about the service but there was absolutely no ambience. The lighting was dim as if the management thought this created ambience. They were wrong. It just made it badly lit. The music was completely wrong... More

Service, atmosphere, and food top notch - Chilean sea bass delicious, however, the portion size was reduced from 2014.

This was my first time at this restaurant which is housed inside an old bank building with marble throughout. The is very beautiful, yet simple. I started with some sushi that was very good and unique. My main course was the Chilean Sea Bass and it was fantastic. I can't wait to go back and have it again. Our waiter... More

Fab sea food. We had a very good meal here. Good value for money. It is well worth checking it out. The staff were extremely helpful. Excellent service.

Housed in a former bank building, the Blue Water Grill never disappoints. It's our neighborhood "go to" place in Union Square. The outdoor terrace is perfect in warmer weather. The crispy skin Faroe island salmon is wonderful. But a word of caution: I've read conflicting reports about the safety of this farm raised fish. If you have any concerns, stick to... More

I've been to the Blue Water Grill a number of times when I'm in the City and I LOVE IT! The atmosphere is always good, it's buzzy but refined. When we went in Feb there was a live jazz band which was perfect for us (we were upstairs above the raw bar) but may have been a little loud for... More

I visit New York 2-3 times a year, and usually visit Blue Water Grill every time with business colleagues. We have always dined in the private room downstairs, so I don't know about the experience in the main dining area. But, service was and always is phenomenal. The servers are always attentive, without being intrusive. Each course is timely and... More

Although highly rated, I was able to secure a table on short notice. As soon as we walked in, it was obvious why. The place was incredibly loud! Impressive space but charmless and crowded, with mostly marble surfaces and up-tempo music playing. Almost impossible to talk over the din. Nice waitstaff, great green salad but poorly prepared, tasteless lobster.

Went w/ friends during restaurant week and chose to eat in the jazz room downstairs. It is much smaller and intimate than the larger dinning room & bar upstairs. The music was a bluesy jazz mix, the fish well prepared and the wine special was quite good. If you like music and fish, this is the place ...

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighborhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of the city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets - much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighborhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being home to a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
