Description: Carmine's simple and very popular concept is to serve every meal in the...
Carmine's simple and very popular concept is to serve every meal in the style of an Italian American wedding feast - which means large portions of home-style antipasti, pastas, seafood and meat entrees served on large platters designed for sharing. And when we say large, we mean large. An entree here could easily feed three to four average eaters. Located in a sprawling, former grand ballroom on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, this is the original Carmines. Designed by Peter Niemitz, the interiors evoke the images of the quintessential New York restaurant. With elements and details from the 1920s to the 1940s, the restaurant has the look and feel of a place that has been around for much longer than it's 1990 opening. If you are in the market for freshly prepared family style Italian food that is served in huge portions at reasonable prices, this is the place for you.

Fun place for a group

You will probably need reservations for a group so call ahead. This is a fun place for a group because the food is served family style. The price is good if your group shares the main courses - one salad, an entree or two, and one dessert will easily feed 6 adults.

The bright lights, the raucous crowds, clanging of plates the flurry of multitudinous waiters make this an experience....not necessarily a fine dining experience. It's kind of like going to a circus...or fun house. The waitress explained the large portion sizes but they have to be seen to be believed. Take her word for it.....there is lots of food! The salad... More

Food is good. Service attentive although one entree was forgotten but eventually served. They made good by picking up the dessert. One dish not exactly delivered as ordered but still very good. Place is packed, family style dining. Portion sizes to share are good sized. Very noisy hard to have a conversation as the dining area is one large open... More

The food is great. All family style, all fresh and cooked to your order. This is the closest you will get to Italian family cooking. All dishes are served in portions for at least 4 . You can't find a bad thing on the menu. A menu that hasn't changed since its beginning. And it is so old new York,... More

Just around the corner from Times Square, Carmine's offers the break a weary traveler needs. The food is excellent, and the service is superb. I recommend the carbonara. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in the big apple!

Oh, service is wonderful! I love the host and servers. I've been here 3 times already, and everyone has been consistently charming. I've been pleasanty catered to by various gentlemen here, all always checking to make sure my dining experience is the best it can be. I really appreciate that. Friends and I came here for dinner a few weeks... More

We (Party of 5 - 2 small Children) come into Carmine's on a Friday evening without a reservation and the Hostess happliy welcomed us. The restaurant was buzzing and packed, despite our lack of reservation, we were seated within 15 minutes. We were pleasantly surprised with the Meal and the Service. The Staff was very resourceful and knowledgeable. Overall, we... More

Walked from our UWS hotel. Had an accomidating waiter who quickly brought us our drinks (house wine was fine) and a very good variety of breads/rolls. They offered shared meals which is meant for 3-4 people so we had way too much for the two of us. However we enjoyed the leftovers the next day. Our meal was wonderful. I... More

Spaghetti and Meatballs is my favorite. We have Carmine's cookbook and make some the recipes at home! We can never do it justice, but is close enough to hold us over to our next visit to NYC!

We travelled to New York and stayed for a week sampling a lot of different restaurants throughout our stay. This is the number 1 restuarant I felt compelled to write a review for to try and express how fantastic the food was. Italian is my favourite and has been for many years so I feel I know when I find... More
