Description: Carmine's simple and very popular concept is to serve every meal in the style of an Italian American wedding feast - which means large portions of home-style antipasti, pastas, seafood and meat entrees served on large platters designed for sharing. And when we say large, we mean large. An entree here could easily feed three to four average eaters. Located in a sprawling, former grand ballroom on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, this is the original Carmines. Designed by Peter Niemitz, the interiors evoke the images of the quintessential New York restaurant. With elements and details from the 1920s to the 1940s, the restaurant has the look and feel of a place that has been around for much longer than it's 1990 opening. If you are in the market for freshly prepared family style Italian food that is served in huge portions at reasonable prices, this is the place for you.

For the best Lasagna you have ever put a fork to, you have to go to Carmine's. Portions are meant to serve 3-4 people so be prepared. The mixed green salad is overly generous but with dressing on the side, easy to take the leftovers. For a really special chicken dish, try the chicken scarpariello. Lemon, herbs, perfectly roasted, moist,... More

Bring your friends....AND your appetite. This joint is definitely "family-style", but don't be freaked out at the prices on the menu, each item can feed 3-4 people...we massively over-ordered (and had tons of take-home) our first time there. Good food. Good Service. Good Ambience. Good times!

Great Italian-American food but don't dine alone here. You might think the prices are high but each dish serves at least 2 people, probably 4. If you don't leave Carmine's with your leftovers in a box (or boxes) you've overeaten.

Fun place, reasonable prices, good Italian food. Great with a big group. Chicken parmigiana is excellent. Eat as much as your belly can hold. For me, the garlic bread is the best.

We wanted classic Italian food and family atmosphere. Carmine's was wonderful! We arrived early for a more quiet time, and it was the right decision. Gets busy starting at 5PM. Portions are gargantuan! Bring your appetite and be ready to take a box home.

We never saw our waiter ONCE. Busboy/food runner asked if he could take our appetizer order and we ordered a hot antipasto. He said our waiter would be there in few minutes, which is standard. We wanted to order wine and a main course, however no waiter ever came over to us. We decided to leave after we finished our... More

I have dined at the Times Square location several times but this was my first visit to the Upper West Side location. The menu and the look & feel of the restaurant is the same. However, the Upper West Side location is away from the craziness of Times Square. Our server was very good but the service at times was... More

Dropped in here yesterday with a group of friends, without a reservation. The staff was most accommodating . Service was excellent, especially with explanations around their family style meals. The food was very good - a rad salty for some of our tastes.

After So many years Carmines still serves up the same type of food in the same great atmosphere. Huge portions of carbs are just plonked in front of you with massive portions of meat balls, veal and desserts with free refills. Great service and a good place for families but not cheap and very, very loud. Don't count on hearing... More

Went with a big group of friends for a fun summer evening dinner. The food comes on big platters and shared. We ordered a wide variety of appetizers and entrees and all were hearty and delicious. The wait staff are very friendyt and attentive.
