Description: Carmine's simple and very popular concept is to serve every meal in the...
Carmine's simple and very popular concept is to serve every meal in the style of an Italian American wedding feast - which means large portions of home-style antipasti, pastas, seafood and meat entrees served on large platters designed for sharing. And when we say large, we mean large. An entree here could easily feed three to four average eaters. Located in a sprawling, former grand ballroom on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, this is the original Carmines. Designed by Peter Niemitz, the interiors evoke the images of the quintessential New York restaurant. With elements and details from the 1920s to the 1940s, the restaurant has the look and feel of a place that has been around for much longer than it's 1990 opening. If you are in the market for freshly prepared family style Italian food that is served in huge portions at reasonable prices, this is the place for you.

Have just come from Carmine's with my wife. Seeing the 2015 Trip Advisor award of excellance gave us the confidence to give it a try. My wife and I could not get through the first course which was one of today's specials. The salad was beautiful, but it was big enough to feed four to six people. We did our... More

Everyone I know who's been to NY has raved about Carmines but I failed to understand why? Food was ok but not real Italian quality and it reminded me of the all you can eat buffet places where quantity is more important. No real choice for singles who are not meat eaters other than wasting large quantities of food!!!

I think we've gone to Carmine's every time we've gathered a group in the City. It's fun and boisterous, without being so loud you cannot hear people at your table. The large platters of family style portions are consistently delicious, and the menu has enough diversity for any crowd. Reservations definitely recommended.

Have been to Carmine's many times in the past pre-Trip advisor days when I lived in NY. Was back for a visit and food and service was still excellent. Went with 6 people and we had a great time. One member of our party was Gluten free and they had a menu to accommodate. Veal, Chicken Parm and pasta were... More

Although there were only two of us, the price was similar to eating in a "fancier" restaurant. We were craving good classic Italian and that is exactly what we got. The server was quick and helpful. All of the staff were friendly. The restaurant was packed at 9:30 PM but everything was delicious and fresh...and we didn't find ourselves waiting... More

Food is great, wait staff helpful, desserts amazingly large. Recomment: Caesar's Salad, steak, pasta. Drinks are good. Reservations are important -- it's popular!! Only downside, it's very noisy, but very New York. Each dish is for everyone - family style, and plenty to go around!

To say that a single plate of food would make you feel full is saying it lightly. This restaurant ensures all in the table are well fed given that each plate is served to accommodate two people or more. My family's visit was in 91st Street due to unavailable reservations at the Times Square location of the same name, thus... More

First of all the portions are large! You can order a dish served on one plate the should cover for 2-3 persons. I would say at least 3. Therefore very good value for your money since you can get leftovers to go. Perfect for lunch the day after. The service is very kind and humorous. Even though it is a... More

The food was excellent. Great price. It is family style service so you get big plate of pasta to share. Ended up being best and least expensive meal of the trip. We order spaghetti and meatballs. Meatballs tasted like the meatballs our friends mother used to make, she was the best cook around.
