Description: Carmine's simple and very popular concept is to serve every meal in the style of an Italian American wedding feast - which means large portions of home-style antipasti, pastas, seafood and meat entrees served on large platters designed for sharing. And when we say large, we mean large. An entree here could easily feed three to four average eaters. Located in a sprawling, former grand ballroom on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, this is the original Carmines. Designed by Peter Niemitz, the interiors evoke the images of the quintessential New York restaurant. With elements and details from the 1920s to the 1940s, the restaurant has the look and feel of a place that has been around for much longer than it's 1990 opening. If you are in the market for freshly prepared family style Italian food that is served in huge portions at reasonable prices, this is the place for you.

I've been over 15 times. The focaccia break with tomato that comes at each table is delicious. The hot antipasto is always fantastic. Rigatoni with marinara, broccoli and sausage is way better than you can imagine. Chicken Scarpariello is a garlicky treat but it's on the bone. Believe me or not the bread pudding is the best dessert and the... More

My wife and I were part of a 30+ person bus tour that had Carmine's as a "family dinner" on a busy Sunday evening using a predetermined menu. Due to traffic issues, our bus arrived 45 minutes late but the staff greeted us cordially and went out of their way to provide excellent service. Each course was served on large... More

Go to Carmine's when you have a group to feed. The wait can be endless, even with reservations, but if you order a drink at the bar, you'll be very happy till your table is ready. The drinks, which cost about the same as at a local bar, all seem to me to be poured with a "heavy hand", a... More

Carmine's located on the Upper West-side is in a good location on busy Broadway and West 91st street - close to the 96th street subway station and Train #1. Also, a M5 bus stop is nearby. The greeting by the staff outdoors and the receptionists inside is very good. Reservations are accepted but you won't be seated until your entire... More

This place, as well as its midtown compadre, is extremely difficult to procure for reservations given its large capacity. However, it is a "smooth operator" with old fashioned basic Italian served in large portions/family style including very good salads, calamari (you want them fried, grilled not even offered), pasta of course(choice of spaghetti, linguine, angel or rigatoni), especially super veal... I have lived most of my life in Manhattan and Brooklyn, having been born in Brooklyn. I have ate in both carmine's locations numerous times. They never fail to please. Went back in tonight and once again, the food was great, the service was great and everyone went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed dinner. We had... More

I absolutely love Carmine's. They have delicious Food. The dishes are really tasty and good. The service is amazing. Great desserts. Amazing location, you can go walk around Times Square after you finish eating which is pretty cool. I recommend the shrimp parmigiana great dish. Enough for 2 people.

A branch of a small chain. If you are an NYC foodie, this is not the place for you. We ate lunch there and were a group of 8, most of whom were from the Midwest. All courses are served family style, thus it is more appropriate for large groups. The menu has a large number of choices in all... More

James, the manager, deserves some points for recovering part of what this review would have been, but he could only do so much. Start with the "PA" system to announce when each table is ready - not the buzzer/flasher system that is discrete and polite, not an actual PA system - this involves a black girl standing at the top... If you want a place to celebrate with family and not have to do all the cooking, this is the place. It's loud (just like home when all of the family is together at the holidays) but the food is so comforting, you feel as though you are at home. The portions are family style and huge; many of the...
