Description: Carmine's simple and very popular concept is to serve every meal in the style of an Italian American wedding feast - which means large portions of home-style antipasti, pastas, seafood and meat entrees served on large platters designed for sharing. And when we say large, we mean large. An entree here could easily feed three to four average eaters. Located in a sprawling, former grand ballroom on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, this is the original Carmines. Designed by Peter Niemitz, the interiors evoke the images of the quintessential New York restaurant. With elements and details from the 1920s to the 1940s, the restaurant has the look and feel of a place that has been around for much longer than it's 1990 opening. If you are in the market for freshly prepared family style Italian food that is served in huge portions at reasonable prices, this is the place for you.

It was our first time to Carmines, but we will return. Love the way the food was served family style. All of our selections were wonderful.

We went to Carmine's for a birthday celebration. Carmine's is a family style Italian Restaurant where families gather to celebrate whatever or just each other. As we waited a short time for a table a group of 8-year old girls with their parents were just winding up an uproarious birthday celebration for one of the girls. We were seated in... More

Decided to go to this Carmines hoping it would have a more neighborhood feeling than 42nd street location - great decision!! Everything from the wine to the appetizer platter to the entrees right thru to the Tugboat dessert (smaller version of the Titanic) & zambuco was fabulous!Service was attentive but not pushy; they made great recommndations especially the chicken marsala... This is a lovely location in an interesting neighborhood. The building was built in 1904 and the room was the ballroom of what was then a luxury hotel. The historic atmosphere is lively and pleasant. The food, which is all family style, is both plentiful and delicious. The Country Rigatoni is a particular favorite with sausage, beans, broccoli and lots... More

I've been to Carmine's on 91st and Broadway many times and the food is consistently delicious. The pasta is always perfectly cooked, and the Eggplant Parmagiana is always a hit.,,We love the chicken scarpiello (marinated chicken on the bone, with lemon, capers and rosemary)...it is unbelievable. Go to Carmine's, you won't be disappointed.....

Last week she asked me to make reservations for her b-day dinner because she was in the mood for her favorite chicken Marsala from Carmines. The palce was super crowed as usual. Thank goodness I made reservations. The staff was very friendly and diligent. All... More

Had a great time large portions. Enough for an army. Not to mention the humongous birthday desert the only drawback it's very loud if you want to carry on a conversation, otherwise make reservation and enjoy

The salads, the pasta, the bread and the meatballs are absolutely yummy....top it off with excellent service and friendly staff who make you want to return! Our most recent visit was a lovely lunch with delicious sangrias; the atmosphere allows for great conversation. I love to try new places when I am in the city, but the original Carmine's is... More

I've been over 15 times. The focaccia break with tomato that comes at each table is delicious. The hot antipasto is always fantastic. Rigatoni with marinara, broccoli and sausage is way better than you can imagine. Chicken Scarpariello is a garlicky treat but it's on the bone. Believe me or not the bread pudding is the best dessert and the... More

My wife and I were part of a 30+ person bus tour that had Carmine's as a "family dinner" on a busy Sunday evening using a predetermined menu. Due to traffic issues, our bus arrived 45 minutes late but the staff greeted us cordially and went out of their way to provide excellent service. Each course was served on large... More
