Description: Located in New York's landmark Helmsley Building, Bobby Van's Steakhouse...
Located in New York's landmark Helmsley Building, Bobby Van's Steakhouse has been serving the best porterhouse in town for the last eleven years. Upon entering, one is greeted with the sight of a credenza groaning under the weight of large bottles of wine. A bar full of regular customers is on the left and looking into the one-hundred seat dining room, one sees the thirty foot high ceiling and windows overlooking Park Avenue. To complement our Prime Aged Steaks our Sommelier has created an award winning wine list. Whether you're looking for a big Cabernet, a Pinot Noir or something in between our comprehensive list is sure to please. "

What you would expect

Top quality steak house on a par with Morton's, Sparks and Palm. Do not each that much steak but appreciate a good filet. Be careful of the portion sizes. The filet is 16 oz and the petite filet is 9 ounces. Wait staff attentive, sides well prepared. All three meals came out the same time... read more

We stopped in for a drink on a Friday afternoon. Service in the bar is excellent- good selections and priced for the neighborhood. Decor was typical NYC steakhouse. Smaller bar area but cozy and perfect for our purposes. Close walk to Grand Central and the Waldorf. Worth a stop for sure.

I reviewed this restaurant a few months ago and I could cut and paste it. Again, pleasant to have a woman server, especially one as good as ours with a typical New York attitude and dry sense of humor. A female version of John, the Bass gravel- voiced barman, a fixture here. But it was packed with office holiday celebrations,... More

Being surrounded by titans of all industry one knows what to expect from this special place. The tables are small and cramped. But this piece of real estate does not come without a price! Great drinks, expensive wines, wonderfull steaks! Top notch sides!

Back to the place we had our first NYC Steak 15 years ago. Still an excellent venue, top service great food at fair prices, nice comments / conversation with owner was real nice touch. Classy place with good options and nice dining experience.

This place was still bustling at 9:30pm on a Wednesday night - the food is very good, however the portion sizes are huge and the prices comparable to the oversized plates. Good service and overall a good experience, but would rather spend my money at a local place with reasonable portions than this chain with so much waste.

I went with a group of people, so I was able to try a variety of dishes. The Sweet Chili Calamari was excellent. Salad was very good. The side order of bacon was gluttonous, but fantastic. Tomato and Mozzarella was also nice. The steaks were obviously good, but not incredible. All in all, I was quite happy with the dinner.... More

This restaurant was nice. I enjoyed the waiter the most as he knew exactly what he was talking about. I'm from Texas so I've had better steak but the garlic mashed potatoes and hash brown casserole were delish!

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
