A true Harlem experience

The food we tried was pretty good- chicken and waffles and grits. The atmosphere leaves you feeling like you are getting a true Harlem or NYC experience. I appreciate that the original counter tops remain, etc. The service was quick.

The first 3 times I tried to go the queues were too long, make sure you get there early. This time my friends and I managed to get a table and it was worth it. We were seated outside which meant we really got to take in Harlem. I had some grandma punch, over easy eggs, fried chicken, home fries... More

Sylvia's is over. We had a quick not very tasty meal. Good but unpersonal service in the warmest part of new yorl, Harlem. The plate with beans couldn't hav e been smaller, the meat ... Dissapointing

Sorry to hear you were so disappointed, Armand! We'll definitely try to make the service a little more personal next time as well as making the beans and meat a little more appealing. Thanks for being so candid with your feedback! All the best, Sylvia's More

I heard so much about Sylvia's Restaurant in New York so I had to visit them myself! The food is soooo delicious. The best cooks are employed here apparently bc EVERY dish I ordered was tasty and cooked beyond perfection. The herbed chicken was juicy but done (not dry). The corned bread was flaky and delicious as well (we requested... More

Thanks so much for finally stopping by! It's great to hear the phrase "finger licking good" when talking about our food, so needless to say this review made our day. We're glad the chicken struck the right chords with you and your granddaughter, so feel free to come by anytime for some more! Best, Sylvia's More

Finally visited Sylvia's after having seen the place featured on Man vs Food years ago. As a big fan of good fried chicken, I was very keen to try it out here. The service was really good, the cocktails we ordered were tasty and the atmosphere was buzzing. Particularly considering it was a Sunday evening. Every table was filled and... More

We planned a day in Harlem and had several well known soul food restaurants to choose from. We chose Sylvia's on reputation and critiques. We weren't impressed with the ambiance, but this wasn't why we were there. We ordered simple lunches, my husband having chicken and grits, me ordering chicken, greens and mac 'n cheese. We waited for over half... More

This sounds quite unexceptional indeed, Tripfran! We don't understand why your meal would have suffered this badly, so we're extremely sorry you feel you didn't get what you paid for. That said, we really don't get these kind of reviews all too often, so we think you may have just visited us on an off day. If you're ever in... More

This place was top of my agenda to have lunch when I visited New York and it certainly did not disappoint.....pure soul food with an extra helping of soul!! The Mac & Cheese was amazing, the waffles pure heaven and the chicken was juicy and tender. It was my first experience of corn bread so really no comparison to make,... More

Our reservation for the Apollo Theater tour was for 11:30 and it was breakfast at Sylvia’s at 9:30. We had about 20 high school juniors and seniors with us, arriving via 5 or 6 different cabs: an easy adventure. Sylvia’s wait staff was perfectly fine for such a large group, if a tad slow with three or four orders. In... More

Imgave my husband tickets for 55, Alive and Kicking and were excited to visit Sylvia's for the first time. I had chicken and ribs and my husband had catfish, which he said was so fresh it almost swam off the plate. My ribs were tender but the sauce was just sitting on top. The chicken was outstanding.
