My wife heard about Sylvia's and suggested we go there for dinner. We went early in the evening during the week without reservations. The location is conveniently located near bus and subway lines. Upon our arrival, we were immediately seated and Ernest our server was there to greet us within minutes. The restaurant was clean and nicely furnished. The menu... More

It was delicious! We had a little bit of everything. The fried chicken was the best part. It was not oily and it was very juicy in the middle. Ribs were great! The collard greens were by far amazing. Who really likes veggies, right? But these greens were so tasty! We also had fried fish, potatoe salad, and rice. Everything... More

My husband & I had a delightfully, delicious lunch at Sylvia's. Our server Ernest was attentive & helpful & we could barely walk out the door after our meal. It was all so good we couldn't stop eating & those planned leftovers never happened. We'll be back with our kids on our next trip to NYC.

Sylvia's is still going strong which must say something. It is good old-fashioned soul food, with southern fried chicken which is crisp and not fatty. Would recommend the black-eyed peas to go with it, and Sugar Hill beer made in Harlem. If you are looking for new haute cuisine, perhaps this is not for you. However it is good value,... More

I know. Sylvia's is an institution...but, on a Saturday afternoon, the wait for a table can seem endless. Unfortunately for us, if weren't determined to stick it out, we would have left for 'greener pastures'. The interiors are certainly 'well worn', and the downstairs bathrooms are downright claustrophobic. We hung in there hoping to have brunch - or, at least... More

I took my children here and the food was very Good. The fried chicken was great and the vegetable collard greens. I like the lemonade too. Nice atmosphere. They have dining in or to go options.

As a lifetime New Yorker, eating at this historically important restaurant was always on my list. To begin the review on a positive note, the prices are very reasonable for a New York City restaurant. In addition, the service was good. My daughter and I were there on a cold and rainy Wednesday night, so that may have accounted for... More

I have been coming to Sylvia's for at least 15 years now being I live right next door to NY in Connecticut and the food is always great. With my last visit nothing has changed. The atmosphere was great and the food was even better. If your in the area and love southern food, this is the place for you.

Sylvia's was a pleasant surprise in the city when I was on vacation. It's more southern American food but beyond amazing. Their catfish bites were yummy, along with the Mac and Cheese and corn bread. Sweet tea was really one of my favorites. It's more grandma's cooking, than something high class.
