Excellent oxtails

They only have stewed oxtails once a week, but they were outstanding. Very tender and flavorful, along with a wonderful gravy I used for my mashed potatoes. The black eyed peas were great as well as the cornbread. Very friendly service. I was close to the kitchen entrance and saw a lot of the... read more

I had the pork chop with potatoe salad and greens. Boyfriend had fried chicken with yams and Mac n cheese. Both our meals were fantastic. Service was superior. Drinks from the bar were not the best. Probably shouldn't been drinking at lunch time anyway. We will defiantly be back on next visit to New York.

Don't ever hesitate to go to Harlem on the subway and go to Sylvia's for chicken and waffles. Food was excellent, service was great and the whole experience was the best. My soninlaws birthday and the waiters came and sang to him and brought him cake. This is a must if you visit NYC a. Can't wait to go again.... More

What a quaint place this was and so warm and cosy. Great place to rest and eat on a freezing cold day. Enjoyed corn bread. Had black eyed peas for the first time.Good music and great staff.

I could only come to one soul food restaurant on my recent trip to New York, so I decided to go to the best soul food in Harlem, and Sylvias didn't let me down. It was authentic, and they gave me complimentary corn bread which was delicious, and I ordered the chicken and waffles and it was to die for.... More

Probably the coldest walk we did in NYC. Martin Luther to Malcolm X. In the end the food was worth the effort. Full of locals which is a good sign. The chicken is a must try. Service is patchy but OK. We loved the new experience. So different to Melbourne, Australia.

Our annual trip to Harlem take us to Sylvia's for a catered "buffet" type meal with the some of the best collard greens you'll find anywhere. Our group of college students were very pleased. The only issue we had was there was not enough vegetarian or vegan options to choose from without just eating "sides". We had ribs, fried chicken... More

We're sorry about the lack of vegetarian and vegan options! We can only imagine how that must've made the trip a bust for a few folks. That said, we're glad that overall everyone was able to enjoy themselves here. We hope that you'll make it back the next time you come to Harlem! All the best, Sylvia's More

Breakfast, fried chicken, biscuit and grits. I would never have thought it would appeal, never mind be so wonderfully enjoyable. Essentially, simple food done very, very well and served with lashings of warmth. We went based upon recommendation for breakfast in Harlem without knowing its history or reputation. Being served such traditional fare was a wonderful way to start the... More
