There are so many restaurants in NYC that offer excellent pizza, but if you're in the East Village you simply have to stop at Gruppo for the best thin-crust pizza in the area. Service was very good and the food was truly delicious. Our party enjoyed Meat Lovers and Parma Pizzas, along with a Greek Salad and Beet & Goat... More

We wandered in here for a family lunch at the end of a 3-day visit in the area. Our boys were starving after playing in Tompkins Park and this place delivered. Excellent thin crust pizza, they master a nice crispy crust with flavorful toppings without burning it. Our lunch panini specials were great too and fantastic prices! Service was great... More

Tried Gruppo for the first time. Very courteous staff. Ordered the classica with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes and basil. The pizza is cracker thin, so not like typical pizzas. But the toppings were gorgeous. The arugula salad was also really good with a fantastic dressing. If you are looking for authentic pizza, this is not the place, but it is definitely... More

This place has the best thin crust pizza. If I am ever in the area I try to stop in. They also deliver to a number of local bars in the area so it's a must to order a few pies.

yum yum YUM! I usually go here with a few friends, we split a few pies and get a few bottles of wine. After all is said and done we are paying $20 max with tip and tax which is a great deal! They have very affordable wine selections and the pizza is just cooked perfectly. They even have some... More

Friends we were meeting for dinner live nearby and suggested this restaurant. We were there a bit on the late side and was able to walk right in and get a table for dinner. So not sure how crowded it might be earlier in the evenings. But if our experience was typical, then this is or should be a pretty... More

This is simply the best thin crust pizza that you will eat in NYC. It is also moderately priced. The atmosphere is cozy. We lived in the neighborhood for several years, and this place is tops. Motorino is also excellent, although slightly more expensive. Enjoy.

Always tasty and wonderfully thin crust, this pizza is great. Also, the house salad is big enough for two to split a single serving.

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
